We have reached the knockout stages of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League, and Eden Gardens in Kolkata brings us live action for the Eliminator clash between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Lucknow Super Giants finished third in the Group Stage with 18 points from their 14 games. A dip in form in their last three fixtures cost them a second-place finish, which would have given them some breathing room in the Playoffs, as they managed to get just one win from their last three games. They defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders in their last league match by a narrow margin of two runs.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, ended their Group Stage campaign in fourth place courtesy of a thumping eight-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans in their last league match. They managed to qualify for the Playoffs as the Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals by five wickets, ending the Captials’ hopes of making the Playoffs. The RCB will be high on confidence and will be looking to advance to the Final, but they know they’ll need to be at their best over the next two games against opponents who have been the dominant in this year’s campaign.
Eden Gardens has proved to be a high-scoring ground. The average first-innings total on this pitch is over 150, which the captains will definitely be keeping in mind. I expect the team winning the toss to bat first in order to put up a considerable total on the board and mount pressure on the team batting second.

Batter to watch out for: Virat Kohli
Pressure will undoubtedly be relieved from Virat Kohli’s shoulders due to his standout performance in Bangalore’s last league game. He enjoyed a blistering 73-run knock off 54 balls, which was crucial in his team winning the game by eight wickets.
Kohli has had a disappointing season and will be looking to take this new-found form into the coming game(s), which will be the most crucial part of the RCB’s campaign should they make it to the Final.
Bowler to watch out for: Mohsin Khan
A front-runner for the Emerging Player of the Season award this year is Mohsin Khan, who has picked up 13 wickets in his 8 games and has been very economical with the ball and crucial for the KL Rahul-led Super Giants. They will be banking on him in the Eliminator, and he is undoubtedly my bowler to watch out for.
KL Rahul (vc), Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli (c), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Holder, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mohsin Khan, Josh Hazelwood
The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be looking to make it two out of two against the Lucknow Super Giants. Both teams know that defeat will immediately result in the end their season.
Considering the form and momentum on their side, I’m predicting the Royal Challengers to emerge victorious and advance to Qualifier 2, where they’d face the Rajasthan Royals.
