Match 70 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the clash between the SunRisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings.
While the Kane Williamson-led SunRisers are coming into this game off the back of a close victory over the Mumbai Indians, the Kings are coming into this game off the back of a defeat against the Delhi Capitals.
This encounter between Hyderabad and Punjab is the last match of the group stage of this edition of the IPL. Both the teams have struggled to maintain their consistency this year and have, therefore, failed to make it to the Playoffs.
The SunRisers Hyderabad, who lie eighth in the table with with six wins and seven defeats, emerged victorious against the bottom-placed Mumbai Indians in their last encounter. Batting first, they scored 193 runs in their 20 overs thanks to the heroics of Rahul Tripathi, who scored a brilliant knock of 76 runs off 44 balls, and Priyam Garg, who played a supporting role to Tripathi and scored 42 off 26. Umran Malik, the standout player of the season for Hyderabad and the next Indian bowling sensation, grabbed three wickets. The SRH bowling department just about managed to get the job done by securing a three-run victory.
The SunRisers have been eliminated from the tournament, but they will look to build on the winning motivation and end the season on a high. With their captain Kane Williamson set to miss the match because of the birth of his second child, the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar is most likely to lead the team for their final match.
The PBKS, on the other hand, lie seventh in the table with six wins and seven defeats. In their last match, Liam Livingstone and Arshdeep Singh, Punjab’s breakout bowler of the season, managed to restrict the Delhi Capitals to a low score of 159 runs and collected three wickets each. However, the only batter who stood up in the PBKS batting line-up was Jitesh Sharma, who played a brave-hearted innings of 44 runs from 34 bowls, which went in vain as Punjab fell short of the target by 17 runs.
Despite being one of the strongest teams on paper, the Kings have failed to perform consistently throughout the season, which has led to them being eliminated from the tournament. They will, however, be looking to end the season on a high note and prove the strength of their squad in this fixture.
Four out of the last five matches played at the Wankhede stadium have been won by the chasing teams. Thus, the captain winning the toss will be looking to bowl first and chase down a total. The humidity levels in Mumbai are also peaking and will play a role during the game.

Batter to watch out for: Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi has been the most consistent performer with the bat for the SunRisers Hyderabad this season. He has shown his experience and class and has always tried take his team past the finishing line, even succeeding in doing so a few times. He has nothing to lose in this fixture and hence will be under no pressure coming into this game. To help his team end the season on a high note, Rahul will be looking to score big in this fixture and try to claim a spot for himself in Team India’s upcoming series against South Africa, during which most of the senior players are going to be rested. Although it is highly unlikely, Rahul Tripathi is a hard-working player and will not leave any stone unturned in his effort.

Arshdeep Singh has been the emerging bowler in this edition of the tournament. With his fearless attitude, he surely has turned the heads of the selectors for India’s upcoming tour against South Africa and is highly likely earn a spot in the team.
