Match 66 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the DR. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai for the clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow Super Giants.
While the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders are coming into this game on the back of a cruising victory over the SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants are coming into the game on the back of a narrow defeat against the Rajasthan Royals.
KKR currently lie sixth in the table having played thirteen games with six wins and seven defeats. The KKR batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana gave a good start at the top by scoring 28 and 26 runs respectively. Sam Billings and Andre Russel later came into the attack and scored 34 off 29 balls and 49 off 28 balls respectively to take the teams total to 177 runs. A big blow to the KKR squad is the loss of Ajinkya Rahane to a hip injury and him being ruled out for the remainder of the season. The KKR franchise, although have very weak chances of qualifying for the play-offs as they will have to win the game with a big margin and at the same time want fourth and fifth spot Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore to lose by big margins which is a highly unlikely situation. The franchise will still look to win the game and end their campaign on a high note.
The LSG franchise, on the other hand, who lie third on the table have played 13 games with eight wins and five defeats, conceded a defeat against the Rajasthan Royals and lost their second spot on the table to Rajasthan in their previous game. Lucknow are coming into this game on the back off two consecutive defeats against current table leaders Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Rajasthan batting order with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal helped the team score a total of 177 runs in their 20 overs. LSG while chasing fell short of 24 runs as their openers failed to give them a good start. The middle order of the Lucknow squad in the likes of Deepak Hooda, Stoinis and Krunal Pandya fought hard to put-up a good fight and take the team across to a victory, but the Rajasthan bowlers were in exquisite form to restrict the LSG batsmen from doing so. Lucknow will be looking to going hard into this game and claim the win and on the other hand will be hoping for Rajasthan Royals to lose their encounter against Chennai Super Kings to regain their second spot.
The toss and dew is always a big factor at the DR. DY Patil Sports Academy. The team winning the toss will mostly look to bowl first as the weather is humid and the dew might play its part in the second innings. Though in the previous game, Delhi batting first won the game, the history at this pitch supports the teams chasing.

Batter to watch out for: KL Rahul
Although KL Rahul is coming into this game on the back of poor performances in his previous games and we have seen only glimpses of his batting ability in this edition of the tournament, he is a strong player and leader when it comes to pressure situations. To make his mark and prove his critics wrong, Rahul will be aiming to put up a strong batting performance and score big for his franchise to reclaim the second spot on the table for his franchise.
Bowler to watch out for: Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan has been the most reliable and consistent bowler for the LSG. He is a fast emerging bowler for the Indian squad as well and will be looking to make his presence felt to gain a spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup for the National side. Also with Lucknow being in a tough situation to regain their second spot on the table, he will be looking forward to impressing the franchise and his backers who bestowed trust in him by displaying a standout bowling performance.
