Match 47 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals. While the Shreyas Iyer-led Knight Riders are coming into this game off the back of five consecutive defeats, the Royals are heading into the match off the back of a shock defeat against the bottom-tabled Mumbai Indians who managed to secure their first win of the tournament.
The KKR currently lie eighth on the table having played nine games with three wins and six defeats, out of which five have come in their previous five games. A loss against the Royals will see them match their record of six consecutive defeats from the previous edition of the tournament. With injuries and poor form affecting their side, captain Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana managed to put up a hard-fought 146 in their previous match against the Delhi Capitals, which was not a very difficult score to chase down for Delhi. Their valuable players like Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer have found it extremely difficult to showcase their talent and perform to their calibre. Also, with injuries in the batting and bowling departments, the KKR squad has struggled to field a consistent XI.
The Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, lie third on the table with six wins and three defeats from their nine games. Their previous game against the Mumbai Indians ended in a surprise defeat for them. With the help of a well-scored half-century by the Orange Cap-holding Jos Buttler, Rajasthan managed to reach a score of 158/6. The Mumbai Indians, helped by performances from Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav, managed to chase down the target and took away their first victory of the tournament.
The Wankhede Stadium has proved to be a dicey pitch for the captains to make a choice after the toss. The previous two games have ended with the chasing side winning the game, but the five matches before that were won by the teams batting first. Going into this game, the captain winning the toss will look to chase down a total, taking notes from the previous couple of matches.

Batter to watch out for: Jos Buttler
If there has been one batter who the crowd and the RR fans would vouch for to put up a brilliant knock again and again, it’s Jos Buttler. He is coming into this match having displayed another brilliant performance in the previous game. Though he played at a relatively slower pace, with other batters not able to hold their wickets, Buttler played a steady knock of 67 from 52 balls, taking his team to a total of 158. With 566 runs scored in this season, the current Orange Cap holder is far ahead on the leaderboard for most runs. Another crucial knock will be expected of him as the Royals will want to get back to winning ways.
Bowler to watch out for: Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal has been the pick of the bowlers in the IPL this season and will be confident of cementing his place back in the Indian national team. He has picked up 19 wickets so far and is definitely a threat to the opposition batters. Be sure to have him in your fantasy team.
Aaron Finch, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer (c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult, Andre Russell
Both the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals are coming into this game with defeats and will look at turning their fortunes around with a win. However, with the likes of Jos Buttler and Yuzi Chahal doing the tricks for Rajasthan and currently donning the Orange and Purple Caps respectively, the Royals will be confident of moving on from their last-match defeat against the Mumbai Indians. I expect Rajasthan to take a convincing victory over Kolkata in this fixture.
