Match 53 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune for the clash between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Lucknow Super Giants lie second in the table with seven wins and three defeats from their ten games. KL Rahul has done a brilliant job in leading his team from the front and contributing with the bat as well, and another victory for the LSG will all but guarantee their spot in the Playoffs. They are coming off the back of a three-game unbeaten run, and with the fine form their batters and bowlers are in, they will be fancying their chances to make it a four-game unbeaten run. However, their opposition is not an easy giant to slay and Lucknow will have to be at their best.

On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders lie eight in the table with four wins and six defeats from their ten games. Their five-game unbeaten run came to an end as they managed to defeat the in-form Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 7 wickets. They restricted the Royals to a total of 152 runs in their 20 overs. The inclusion of Rinku Singh proved to be a great decision for Kolkata as he played a marvellous knock of 42 off 23 balls, leading his team home. The KKR will now be looking to win back-to-back games, which is crucial if they are to make the Playoffs this season.

Pitch Report

Dew has been a major concern in the past few games, and with the pitch at the MCA Stadium being a slow and difficult wicket to bat on, I fancy the captain winning the toss to want to bowl first and restrict the opponents to a considerable total.

Batter to watch out for: KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been one of the most consistent and fierce batters for the LSG, leading his side from the front. He is currently second in the race for the Orange Cap with 451 runs and will be looking to close the gap with Jos Buttler. He scored a marvellous knock of 77 off just 51 balls against the Delhi Capitals in the last game and will be looking to score another fine knock against the Knight Riders. Be sure to have him in your fantasy team and give him the Captaincy spot as well.

Bowler to watch out for: Mohsin Khan

Considering the pitch being offered at the MCA Stadium in Pune, Mohsin Khan will be fancying his chances to dismantle the KKR batting line-up and pick up some crucial wickets. The bowler has been in fine form in his debut campaign, having impressed his franchise by picking up 8 wickets in his four games. He was the Man of the Match in his previous outing against the Delhi Capitals as he picked up 4 wickets for just 16 runs in his 4 overs. Given his recent form, he is my bowler to watch out for.

Fantasy XI

KL Rahul (c), Quintin de Kock, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Nitish Rana, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell (vc), Jason Holder, Tim Southee, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan

Match Prediction

Both teams will be looking to clinch the points. The LSG will be looking to cement their place in the top half of the table, whereas the KKR will be looking for a victory in order to move within the top half of the table. This is a tough call to make, though I predict the Knight Riders to emerge victorious in this game.
