Mbappé scores Oakley deal

January 20, 2022

The French footballer has been announced as the latest brand ambassador for Oakley.

French footballer Kylian Mbappé has signed a multi-year deal with eyewear brand Oakley which will see the Paris Saint-Germain star become the brand’s global ambassador.

The partnership will kick off with the ‘Be who you are‘ campaign, which is a short documentary about Mbappé’s rise to the top of world football.

The 2018 World Cup-winner will sport Oakley’s lifestyle collection, which includes the Kato sunglasses that were launched in 2021 featuring a frameless lens.

Speaking about the new partnership, Mbappé commented:

Everyone knows what I’m all about when it comes to football – now, I’m excited to partner with a brand that wants to share my story off the pitch, and support what I want to do to help inspire global youth.

I relate to the Oakley attitude in many ways – the disruptive, innovative spirit and the drive to create positive change. The ‘be who you are’ message resonated very strongly with me and I want to help instil that belief in staying true to yourself and that self-confidence in others. And of course, the eyewear is pretty cool – you feel like a superhero when you put on Kato.

Caio Amato, Global Marketing Director, Oakley, added:

At Oakley, we believe that athletes aren’t measured only by the strength of their body, speed, or accuracy, but by the strength of their heart, kindness, and empathy. And that is what Kylian represents to us: a great human being that understands his role beyond sport – to lead and inspire future generations to believe in themselves and be who they are.

The Oakley partnership comes after the recent announcement that Mbappé had signed for fashion brand Dior as a brand ambassador in December.

For Oakley, though, Mbappé’s inclusion adds to its brand ambassador list that already boasts of National Football League star Patrick Mahomes.
