Match 56 of the 2022 TATA Indian Premier League brings us live action from the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Mumbai for the clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Mumbai Indians lie tenth in the table with two wins and eight defeats from their ten games. A Playoff place is well out of reach for the most decorated team in IPL history, but they will be playing for pride in their coming games. Consistency from both the batting and the bowling ends has been a concern for the Indians, and they will be looking to correct the errors that have cost them a Playoff place this season in order to be well-prepared for the forthcoming campaigns. They defeated the Gujarat Titans in their previous encounter by five runs, however, and will be looking to clinch another two points against the KKR.
The Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, lie eighth in the table with four wins and seven defeats from their eleven games. With three games to go, a Playoff place seems unlikely for the KKR unless they win the rest of their matches by substantial margins. They suffered a thumping defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants in their previous game as they lost by 75 runs; the LSG bowled them out for a mere score of 101. Kolkata will be looking to turn things around and will be hungry for all the six points available in their next three games.
The previous two encounters played at this venue have resulted in the chasing teams going on to win their respective games. I fancy the captain winning the toss to bowl first considering dew as a contributing factor and the track record at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium.

Batter to watch out for: Tim David
Tim David was bought by the Mumbai Indians for ₹8.25 crore before the start of the campaign in the mega auction. He has plenty of T20 experience under his belt as he has played in almost every franchise cricket league around the globe. A star performance for the Hobart Hurriances in the KFC Big Bash League earned him a place in the IPL.
Although David has played just four games this campaign and has scored 77 runs, he is a crucial batter, providing depth to the Mumbai batting order, something that was evident in their previous game as he guided the team to a score of 177, scoring 44 off just 21 balls which also earned him the Man of the Match award. He is in good form ahead of this game and will be fancying his chances to score another crucial knock to guide his team home.
Bowler to watch out for: Murugan Ashwin
Murugan Ashwin has been a pivotal bowler for the Mumbai Indians this campaign, getting them crucial breakthroughs whenever they have called upon him. Coming to bowl in the middle of innings and towards the end of the Powerplay overs, Ashwin has been regularly breaking long partnerships and has proven to be a crucial asset for the MI. Though he has picked up just 8 wickets in his 7 games so far, he has been a crucial bowler for the Mumbai Indians, and with pitches being slowed down as we approach the ending stages of this season, Ashwin will be fancying his chances of picking up crucial wickets for his team yet again.
Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer (vc), Tim David, Aaron Finch, Suryakumar Yadav, Andre Russell (c), Sunil Narine, Jasprit Bumrah, Murugan Ashwin, Shivam Mavi
Well, given the history the two teams share, the Mumbai Indians look the clear favourites. However, with the way things stand currently, the two giants of the IPL have not been at their best this campaign. Both will be looking to clinch the two points on offer. This match may prove to be a nail-biting encounter between the two teams, and I predict the Knight Riders to emerge victorious in this game.
