Top 5 Spurs players to watch in 2022

January 31, 2022

Tottenham Hotspur have had to make the managerial change early in the season, though Antonio Conte stepping in could turn out to be a good thing for them. Since his arrival, the team have looked relatively compact and hard to beat.
However, players with significant potential have not been living up to their usual high standards, resulting in unsatisfactory performances from Spurs. Keeping this in mind, here are my top 5 Spurs players to watch in 2022.

Harry Kane

Harry KaneTottenham’s leading man up top, Harry Kane, hasn’t delivered to expectations in the 2021/22 season. However, probably at the right time for Spurs, he seems to be picking himself up and getting back to his usual standards. Kane currently has just four goals this season, and the Spurs fans will be expecting a lot more from him in 2022.

The uncertainty over Kane’s future has not helped the situation either. Regardless, he remains under contract for Spurs and can be classed as a player to look out for in 2022 given his ability to find the back of the net.

Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura Lucas Moura is a player who is often given high praise by the Spurs fans for his ability to create chances and make things happen out of nothing. However, the numbers are not in favour of the winger. He currently has a total of two goals for the campaign and is struggling to find the back of the net in the Premier League.

The fans often turn to Moura for goals and things to happen in times of need — a recurring theme in the 2022 campaign. However, with little to no answers from the Brazilian winger, the fans will be looking forward to improved performances from him in 2022.

Son Heung-Min

Son Heung-MinTottenham’s right-hand man to Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, is next on the list of players to watch in 2022. Son undoubtedly has been the best Tottenham player this season so far. With eight goals in the league, Spurs are having a hard time finding scorers apart from the South Korean. With the winger currently injured, they could suffer a lean patch.

Son has time and time again proved his worth to the fans and the club alike. Unfortunately for Spurs, desperate times mean they must turn to Son again. As a result, he is another one to watch in 2022.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier The Spurs midfielder-turned-centre-back has proven to be one of the shining lights for the side in the 2021/22 campaign. With Antonio Conte stepping in and Spurs playing a back three, the North London side will be looking to bring in centre-backs who can stay narrow and compact while being able to progress the ball — qualities that are seen in Dier. The England international seems key to Conte’s plans and Spurs’ ability to keep clean sheets in the league.

Spurs are one of the top five sides for the most clean sheets in the league. If they are to continue their good form at the back and possibly improve upon the same, top performances from Eric Dier will be required in 2022.

Sergio Reguilón

Sergio ReguilónThe Spurs left-wingback is the last one on my list to watch in 2022. The fans have seen some positive signs of what could come from the Spaniard during his time at Spurs.

Reguilón loves to get forward and help the team in an attacking sense. Conte’s system, which allows room for wingbacks, plays into the Spaniard’s hands.

Reguilón has a total of three assists so far in the league and a solitary goal — numbers that are not too bad for a wingback considering how much Tottenham have struggled in front of goal. The fans will hope Reguilon can cut down on his errors and continue his attacking form for the club in 2022.
