Alex Albon to continue with Williams for F1 2027 season

British Formula One team Williams Racing has announced that their driver Alex Albon will continue with the team for the Formula One 2027 season. The Thai-British driver had joined Williams Racing in 2022 and has been a crucial member of the team as it moved up from the bottom of the grid to the midfield. 

Having made his debut in the Formula One 2019 season with Toro Rosso, Albon’s first big break came when he was promoted to Red Bull mid-season in 2019 to replace Pierre Gasly. Albon scored his maiden Formula One podium at the Tuscan Grand Prix 2020. He lost his Red Bull seat at the end of the Formula One 2020 season and after a season spent as the Test and Reserve Driver for Red Bull, Albon left the Red Bull family to join Williams in 2022. Albon and Carlos Sainz together saw Williams finish fifth in the Constructor’s championship in 2025 but with the new regulations for 2026, it’s been a tough start to the season for Albon and Williams. 

Williams currently sit in 9th place in the Constructors’ championship with 11 points with Albon having scored 5 of those. An eighth place finish in Monaco has been Albon’s best finish of the Formula One 2026 season so far. Albon’s current teammate is Carlos Sainz and the extension with Williams means that Albon will enter his sixth year with Williams and it will be the longest stint of his career so far.
