IPL 2026 | Match 17 : Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants | Preview and Predictions

Match 17 of the 2026 Indian Premier League season brings us to the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as a winless Kolkata Knight Riders side takes on Lucknow Super Giants on 11th April.

Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 17 : Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants | 15:30 IST, 11 April

This current KKR side is missing leaders like Mitchell Starc and Shreyas Iyer in their squad. They finally earned a point in their last game but not before losing two wickets inside four overs before rain halted proceedings.

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane alongwith explosive batter Finn Allen have looked good as an opening pairing, with the Kiwi in particular hitting 15 boundaries in the 31 balls he has faced so far. Besides, young Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been the star with the bat, scoring two half-centuries in his first two games while staying not out in the third game before rain halted the game.

However, all eyes will be on Aussie all-rounder Cameroon Green, with the 26-year-old registering scores of just 18, 2 and 4 in his first three outings. The mercurial Rinku Singh has also had a couple of decent outings and thus should be in good nick heading into this game. That said, there is a significant lack of quality finishers after him, with both Ramandeep Singh and Sunil Narine not at their best anymore.

The KKR bowling attack looks grim on paper. They have managed to take 11 wickets in 2 games. Blessing Muzarabani will lead the bowling attack with Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, and Karthik Tyagi. Muzarabani picked up 4 for 41 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and will be the one to watch out for. However, both Arora and Tyagi have haemorrhaged runs at over despite runs per over despite providing the occasional breakthroughs.

As for their opponents, the Lucknow Super Giants roared back in style against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second game after suffering a crushing defeat in the opener. Although it took them till the last over to finally get over the line – thanks to Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 68 off 50 – however, it was their seamers who laid the groundwork for this comfortable victory.

As things stand, Aiden Markram should continue to open the innings with Mitchell Marsh – after scoring 45 in the last game. Australian T20 skipper Mitchell Marsh missed out against SRH – that said, he’ll be rearing to go against a weakened KKR side. Apart from him, both Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni failed to deliver the goods in the first game and thus will be hoping to provide some meaningful contribution from the middle-order.

Despite a lot of skepticism before the tournament began, the LSG bowling attack has done well in their first two outings – especially in the Powerplay overs. The experienced Mohammed Shami led the attack beautifully against SRH with figures of 2 for 9 in four overs. With quality support from the likes of Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi and Prince Yadav, they look better suited to tackle the Eden Gardens wicket.

In terms of weather forecast and pitch report, the weather in Kolkata is expected to be cloudy on match day. However, rain is expected on a day earlier which might change the outfield conditions. While the pitches are generally batter friendly, overcast conditions can assist seamers with the new ball.

Looking ahead to this contest, KKR’s bowling attack is one of the weakest in the league. They have conceded 200-plus runs in both games and have picked up just 11 wickets. Both teams have explosive top-orders but are fragile when it comes to their middle-order. Thus, in a day game with overcast conditions, whichever middle-order navigates the conditions the best, should come out on top in this encounter.

We’re giving the Lucknow Super Giants a slight edge in this contest.

Fantasy XI: Finn Allen (vc), Mitchell Marsh (c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh, Ayush Badoni, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, Blessings Muzarabani, Avesh Khan

Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Winners Prediction: Lucknow Super Giants
