Norway vs England | FIFA World Cup 2026- Quarterfinals | Preview and Predictions

The stage is set for arguably the biggest gladiator match in this World Cup as Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, two of the best strikers of our time, cross paths in a battle to take their team to the semifinals as Norway look to make another massive leap in a World Cup of the ages of them against an England side that are as united as they have been in the last few years in what is building up to be a fascinating quarterfinal clash.

Here is our Preview and Prediction for this clash.

FIFA WC26 | QF: NOR vs ENG | 02:30 IST, 12 July, 2026

Norway have been breaking new ground in what is their first World Cup appearance in 28 years. Led by the effervescent Haaland, they have been a breath of fresh air in this World Cup, full of vibes, joy, and breathtaking performances that have brought them this far.

Against Brazil, Haaland was a bystander for almost the entirety of the game, not getting enough touches on the ball or not really doing much to give the Brazilian backline much of a headache. But that is the undeniable beauty and threat of this mountain of a striker. All he needed were two moments, and in those moments he exploded like a volcano, leaving Brazil in his wake and out of the World Cup in a trice.

There is also a beautiful bit of nostalgia in this Norwegian squad. In 1994, Alfe-Inge Haaland, Goran Sorloth, and Erik Thorstvedt represented Norway in the World Cup. Fast forward to 2026, and their sons, Erling Haaland, Alexander Sorloth, and Kristian Thorstvedt are now making their fathers as well as their countries proud on the biggest stage of them all.

There was a huge concern ahead of their quarterfinal where head coach Stale Solbakken addressed concerns about a sickness bug affecting a large chunk of the Norway squad, but those concerns have been quickly dispelled by the team doctor saying that the entire squad is fit and available for selection.

For England, their confidence has skyrocketed as they not only ended Mexico’s impeccable record at the Azteca as well as the World Cup, they also managed to bury some ghosts of their past with that thrilling 3-2 win over the co-hosts which not only brought out England’s best, but also their head coach Thomas Tuchel’s tactical intelligence.

England continue to face issues with the right-back position, with Jarell Quansah receiving a 2-game ban for his red card, meaning he will miss the quarters as well as the semis, provided they qualify. However, there are other concerns, as Mark Guehi and Declan Rice both missed training due to the former feeling tightness in his hamstring and Rice complaining of illness.

There are also a couple of suspension issues that England will need to be careful of. Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Guehi, and Nico O’Reilly are all walking a disciplinary tightrope after receiving yellow cards in the knockouts. Another yellow for any of the quartet will see them miss the semifinal if they qualify.

Harry Kane will continue to be England’s hero, but with Haaland on the other end, it will be the defenders that have to step up and have the game of their lives if they want to make a second World cup semifinal in 3 editions.

It is bound to be a battle of the attacking two-steps, with Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard going up against Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham. But it will be the defenders who have the most pressure. Julian Ryerson, Kristoffer Ajer, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa all of them have arguably their toughest test in this World Cup. Whoever passes it will be the reason  for their side’s victory and passage to the semifinals.

We believe that England are slight favourites for the quarterfinal, but it is going to be one almighty tussle between two of the last remnants of a dying breed of strikers.

Score Predictions: Norway 2-4 England

Venue: Miami Stadium, Miami.
