Sunil Gavaskar launches NFT collection

Former Indian cricket team captain and legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar will be launching his very own NFT collection. The announcement of the launch was made by his son and former India international Rohan Gavaskar.

The Gavaskar NFT collection will be available on alwaysforst.io and go live on November 21, 2022. The collection will be divided in three series, with the first series consisting of a limited edition of 10,000 Emblem Artworks. The second and third series will have designed artwork and collectibles that highlight the major moments of Gavaskar’s career, some of which are:

  • scoring 774 run in on single series (highest by any Indian batter), and
  • his record 34 Test centuries which was a record that stood for many decades,
  • his record of being the first International cricketer to score 10,000 runs

Speaking about the announcement of the NFT collection launch, Gavaskar stated:

When there was freestyle wrestling in India and Dara Singh was an unbeatable champion, I would go out early in the morning with a blade where the wrestling posters were put to cut out the picture of Dara Singh or Randhawa for my scrapbook.

If they want something which would feel a certain connection with me, I would be happy to be a part of it. This is how these NFTs have come about.

I am looking forward to launching this first NFT series where I share my key highlights and tell the story of those moments. I am excited by connecting with a new generation of digital-native sports fans and invite you to join me on this journey.

Members will also stand a chance to win rare signed memorabilia and other personalised cricketing merchandise signed by Gavaskar himself. A few lucky ones can also get an exclusive batting masterclass from Gavaskar.

There will be a total of 51,036 Hall of Fame Access NFTs in the collection with it being broken down into five tiers, which are :

  • Tier 1: Number of runs scored in First Class Cricket – 25,843
  • Tier 2: Number of run scored in International Cricket – 13,214
  • Tier 3: Celebrating being the first cricketer to 10 000 runs – 10,000
  • Tier 4: The year Sunil bought an end to his sparkling career – 1,988
  • The first four series will be released digitally while the fifth one will be a special one for the members who own the first four emblems.
