Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 | India vs Bangladesh | Preview and Predictions

Bangladesh left it late at the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup, surviving a massive scare last night to squeeze into the semi-finals as the fourth and final team.

Now, they’re up against India, who sailed through to the semi-finals with three wins from as many games.

Ahead of the first semi-final of the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup between India and Bangladesh, here we present our preview and predictions.

India have had three comfortable wins to make the semi-finals. Despite those wins, however, their batting has been shaky and worrisome. Aside from the individual contributions of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, Indian batters have had little to show for their attempts. Mandhana, Verma, and Pratika Rawal at the top have been the only ones who have actually got some runs in the tournament, while the rest of the batters, forming an experienced middle order, have simply failed.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has failed to capitalise on the opportunities so far, as have the likes of Bharti Fulmali, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma. As the tournament enters its business end, the Women in Blue need their experienced batters to step up, especially since Sharma at No. 7 is the final recognised batter in the line-up.

With the ball, it has been the spinners who have done all the heavy lifting on Dubai’s slow and gripping surfaces for India. Deepti Sharma, Prema Rawat, and Shree Charani have accounted for a combined 20 of the 30 wickets India have taken. Nandni Sharma and Kranti Gaud have been economical with the ball and have created pressure up top, allowing spinners to ease in and end up picking the wickets.

Like India, Bangladesh’s batting hasn’t clicked as a unit either, with only Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, and Dilara Akter being the ones who have got some runs under their belt. It’s the middle order where Bangladesh’s experience and firepower lie, in the likes of Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana, Shorna Akter, and the experienced all-rounder Ritu Moni.

While they had a batting show to forget against the UAE, Bangladesh will hope their batters deliver against India’s formidable bowling unit. Their batters have struggled against spinners at this tournament, though, so against India’s strong spin attack they’ll have their task cut out.

Bangladesh’s star bowler, Marufa Akter, has been leading the way with the ball, providing breakthroughs with the new ball and proving critical in conditions that haven’t suited seam bowling. The Bangladeshi spin attack, comprising Rabeya Khan, Shorna Akter, and Nahida Akter, has been miserly in the middle overs and will be looking to make the most of the Indian batters’ struggles in the tournament.

This is poised to be an evenly matched semi-final featuring two teams who are struggling with the bat in similar fashion and have been counting on their spinners to bail them out of tricky situations.

Both teams are well familiar with the conditions at this Dubai pitch, which has become slow and gripping. Not many runs are expected, especially given the form of both sides’ batters. That said, based on the sheer firepower and experience in their squad, India start for us with a slight edge over their South Asian rivals.
