3 Players Rajasthan Royals Will Release Ahead of IPL 2023

Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a remarkable Indian Premier League season in 2022, during which they featured in their first final since 2008. With captain Sanju Samson, RR finished second in the points table and overcame Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to reach their second final. Although they came short in the finals, there are many positives they can take to the next season. In fact, IPL fans would have wagered on RR to win it. Like it has happened since IPL 2008, teams will have a chance to refresh their squads, and some players might be released by their respective franchises.

While RR might not make many changes, they could release a few players. This article looks at the three players RR might release ahead of IPL 2023:

Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag did not have one of his best seasons on the batting front. He has 183 runs in 17 matches to his name for IPL 2022. Despite that, he had the team management’s full backing, and he played 17 games. However, the support did not help the former under 19 World Cup winner as he managed only one 50 plus score in the tournament.

The franchise can save some money by letting him go and re-signing him in 2023. This will not be strange as the franchise has re-signed its former player several times, and nothing stops them from doing that next year.

Devdutt Padikkal

RR have invested heavily in Devdutt Padikkal and backed him in all matches. However, the youngster did not have a great season. He managed 376 runs in 17 games. Moreover, his strike rate was low as he struck 122.88. In this regard, RR might release Padikkal because he did not live up to expectations as he only managed one half-century throughout the season.

James Neesham/Daryl Mitchell

RR bought James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell in the mega auction. However, none of the two New Zealand all-rounders featured regularly in the final eleven. The two all-rounders only managed two games each.

The two players offer the same skill set, meaning RR might deem one of them surplus to requirements. Mitchell was not at the top of his game. He even left the tournament early to prepare for the three-match Test series against England. It would not be surprising if RR released both players.
