The Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction list. The list had a total of 1,525 players registered at first, but the final list was trimmed down to 409 players.
The inaugural edition of the WPL is all set to be held from March 4 to 26, 2023. The tournament will be held entirely in Mumbai and have five teams and 22 matches played across the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.
The WPL 2023 auction will be held on February 13, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, where the 409 players will go under the hammer. Among the 409 players, there are 246 Indians and 163 overseas players, eight of them being from associate nations. 202 players are capped at the international level, while 199 are uncapped and eight are from associate nations.
The BCCI has announced that the five teams will have a maximum of 90 slots, with 30 of them allotted for overseas players. The auction will have ?50 lakh as the highest base prize; stars such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine and Deandra Dottin are those who have placed themselves at this price point.
