Carlo Ancelotti’s team has clicked into gear, and now they pose a genuine threat to any and all opponents.

As for Japan, they started the tournament with a feisty 2–2 draw with the Netherlands before annihilating Tunisia to put one foot in the knockouts; the draw against Sweden sealed their spot in the round of 32.

This is a very tough tie for the Samurai Blue. With injuries to a couple of key players, they look a little weak in terms of overall team strength. However, they make up for their weaknesses with their intent, passion, and relentless work rate. They are also a very well-coached team.

Raphinha has been ruled out for this game due to a hamstring injury for Brazil, while, in the Japan camp, Takefusa Kubo will be out for a while with a sprained knee.

The Seleção are one of the contenders to go all the way at this World Cup and came into their own as the group stage progressed. Japan, meanwhile, have played well but have also looked vulnerable in defence. On paper, Brazil possess more dangerous players up front, especially with Vinícius and Cunha in great form, which means Japan will have a massive task on their hands.

Knockout games are generally cagey encounters, and we believe this one will be a tight affair as well. Brazil boast superiority in terms of their head-to-head record against Japan, who in turn are also missing several key players.
