Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina | FIFA World Cup 2026- Group Stage | Preview and Predictions

Co-hosts Canada will lock horns with Bosnia and Herzegovina in what promises to be a cracker of an opening game for Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on June 13 at the Toronto Stadium in what will be a voracious and a raucous home crowd rooting for their side in large numbers.

Here is our Preview and Predictions for the game.

FIFA WC26 | Group B: CAN vs BIH | 00:30 IST, June 13 2026

Group B is a group that is quite close to call given that all the teams in that group have the capability and the quality to beat each other, making it a group that will be evenly-matched right up until the last matchday.

A winning start for both sides is imperative given that it puts them in a significantly better position to get out of the group and into the knockout stages.

Both Canada and Bosnia do not have a rich World Cup history, with Canada playing in just their third World Cup, while Bosnia in their second. Both sides have a combined 1 win in World Cups in the matches that they played, with that coming in Bosnia’s favour in 2014. Canada especially are yet to open their account, having yet to win after 6 WC games.

Canada are unbeaten in their last 8 games entering into the World Cup, while Bosnia are also unbeaten in their last 8 games, that include their win over Italy in penalties.

In terms of the squads and the personnel side of things, Canada just edges Bosnia in that regard, with Bayern star Alphonso Davies and Juventus forward Jonathan David the leading men for their side. Add to that the defensive strength that Canada possess under their head coach Jesse Marsch, Bosnia have a pretty difficult task to break down a side that has kept 7 clean sheets in their last 10 games.

Bosnia also possesses a similar identity under head coach Sergej Barbarez. They enter the tournament as one of the tallest sides, with an average height of 6ft 1in, therefore making them an intimidating proposition to mark at set-pieces, whether they are defensive or attacking.

Bosnia also focus a lot on quick and rapid transitions, with the ball at the feet of their evergreen talisman Edin Dzeko, who continues to score goals at the age of 40, and young rising star Kerim Alajbegovic, who has garnered attention in his time at Red Bull Salzburg.

Despite both sides being even stevens in terms of form and squad quality, Bosnia will be the ones who have nothing to lose. Canada, on the other hand, will have the pressure of being the host nation and will be egged on by a crowd that is expecting a positive tournament this time around, and that can be both a blessing as well as a curse.

While Canada will start as favourites in this game, the final result will eventually be a draw, with both sides sharing points on this occasion.

Score Prediction: Canada 1- 1 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Venue: Toronto Stadium, Toronto.
