Group H is one of the few groups left in the 2026 FIFA World Cup where all four teams have a real chance of not only qualifying for the knockouts, but also finishing as group winners.
With that in mind, Cape Verde, protagonists of one of this World Cup’s feel-good stories, will go up against Saudi Arabia, knowing that a win will further their reputation and put them firmly on the global football map.
For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.
Cape Verde entered this tournament as rank outsiders, but they are now the heart and soul and undisputed darlings of this World Cup following two draws against two former World Cup winners.
Both those draws showcased multiple facets of the way they play. The draw against Spain highlighted their extremely organised and compact defensive approach, where they continued to soak up the pressure, refusing to wilt under the increasing intensity of the Spanish attack, while not letting their focus slip even for one moment en route to their first-ever point in World Cup finals. Their 2–2 draw against Uruguay, meanwhile, showed their adventure in attack. They broke at will and tested the Uruguayan defence time and again, looking dangerous every time they had the ball. Speed was their biggest ally, as they just took two to three passes before breaking into opposition territory.
A win here against Saudi Arabia will take them to the knockouts, adding another chapter to what is already a tale that will be celebrated in the decades to come.
Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, have their work cut out in terms of qualifying for the knockouts. Their 4–0 loss against Spain has put a massive dent in their goal difference, while against Uruguay they had a chance to shake up the balance of power in the group but failed to do so.
Saudi Arabia will look for that early goal in this encounter and try to make the game as open as possible so that they can take advantage of the spaces offered to them. Ultimately, we believe that Cape Verde are favourites to win this game on the back of their impressive performances and will book a spot in the round of 32.
