F1 2025: São Paulo Grand Prix Preview and Predictions

Racing is back as we enter the final leg of the 2025 Formula One season.

Four races are left, and the Drivers’ title is yet to be decided, with three drivers still in the mix. Lando Norris’ win in Mexico saw him take the lead in the championship. Second-placed Oscar Piastri, behind his teammate by a point, still has the spotlight on him, while Max Verstappen also has an outside chance.

For the 2025 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix, here we present our preview and predictions.

Piastri under the pump

After having the lead in the title race for the majority of the season, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was dislodged from the top spot in the Drivers’ standings after the Mexican race, with his teammate moving to the top with a one-point lead.

Piastri is yet to win a race or even get on the podium since the Netherlands. A run of five podium-less races has resulted in the Australian losing his grip on what looked like a locked-in title at one point.

Not only has the 24-year-old been facing pressure from his teammate, but the resurgence of Max Verstappen after the summer break has also been a key contributor to Piastri’s predicament. Verstappen has won three out of the five races since the summer break and is now just 35 points behind Piastri — very much in the hunt for the title.

With four races left in the season, Piastri cannot afford any more mistakes, and a Sprint weekend in Brazil may just be what he needs. A Sprint weekend will provide him with more points to score, and Piastri has shown that he generally keeps a cool head in pressure situations.

After a strong comeback race in Mexico, where he finished P5 after starting P8, count on Piastri to have a strong weekend in Brazil.

Pole position prediction: Oscar Piastri / Max Verstappen
Race winners prediction: McLaren / Red Bull

A big Red mess

After a promising show in pre-season, Ferrari have had yet another campaign to forget. Despite sitting second in the Constructors’ standings, the Scuderia are the only team in the top four yet to win a race this year.

Ferrari might have finished second in Mexico, but that doesn’t tell the full story. Simply put, the Italian team have been nowhere near competitive. Despite showing promise in the free practice sessions, they faltered once again on Sunday.

Moreover, Mercedes are just one point behind Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings, with Red Bull ten points behind them in fourth. Ferrari have already shifted their focus to the 2026 challenger, and while historically they are the second-most successful team in Brazil, it doesn’t look like it will be an easy weekend for them this time around, especially since they haven’t won here since 2017.

With the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes powering up in the final third of the season, and their own attention turning to next year, it will be tough for Ferrari to hold on to second place in the Constructors’ standings.

Driving to survive

With the season coming to an end, it also means that most seats for next season are now taken. Among those still up for grabs are the second seats at Alpine and Red Bull, while Racing Bulls haven’t locked in either of their seats yet.

Alpine’s second seat, currently occupied by Franco Colapinto, brings a different kind of pressure. Colapinto replaced Jack Doohan six races into the season, but he has endured a poor debut campaign himself and is yet to score for the French team.

The French team sit bottom of the Constructors’ standings, with Pierre Gasly having scored all 20 of their points this season. While it’s no surprise that they are among the slowest teams on the grid, Colapinto will still be looking to not only get some points before the season concludes but also retain his seat for next year. The A525 hasn’t shown much improvement, however, and Alpine are likely in for another rough weekend in São Paulo.
