The bank was established in 1903, nationalised by the communists and became known as Binsotsbank before it was privatised again and renamed the Bank of Georgia in 1994.
In May 2023, BOG signed a memorandum with the Georgian Football Federation as per which which it became the official partner of UEFA Under-21 Euro 2023, which was held across Romania and Georgia.
