The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed that the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final will be played at the Kia Oval, London (UK) in June 2023.
The ICC has also announced the venue for the 2025 WTC Final: the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
New Zealand got the better of India in the first-ever WTC Final, which was held in 2021.
The dates for the 2023 WTC Final haven’t been announced yet, but reports suggest that it will be held before The Ashes start next year, from June 16.
The current WTC standings have Australia and South Africa occupying the first two spots, with Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan rounding up the top-five standings. The West Indies, England and inaugural champions New Zealand follow suit, with Bangladesh rounding off the standings at the bottom of the table.
Although Australia look likely to make the Final, with a host of series left to play, both the spots in the 2023 WTC Final remain up for grabs.
Geoff Allardice, Chief Executive, ICC, commented:
“We are delighted to be hosting next year’s ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval which has such a rich legacy and an amazing atmosphere, which is ideal for such an important fixture on the calendar. Following that we will then take the 2025 Final to Lord’s which will provide a fitting backdrop to the ultimate Test.
“Last year’s final between New Zealand and India in Southampton was an engrossing encounter and I am sure fans the world over would be looking forward to the next WTC final at The Oval. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to thank the England and Wales Cricket Board, Surrey County Cricket Club and Marylebone Cricket Club for their support.“
