ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 | Match 23: Australia vs England | Preview and Prediction

Even though Australia and England have qualified for the semifinals of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, there will be enough spice in this contest as both teams face each other in a much-anticipated Match Number 23 of the Women’s Cricket WorldCup.

Here is the Preview and Prediction for the game.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 | Match 23: Australia vs England | 15:00, October 22

Australia continue to time and again prove why they are such a force to be reckoned with in Women’s Cricket, and their path to this tournament’s semifinals only goes on to emphatically prove that point.

Since that collapse of 76/7 vs Pakistan in their third game, Australia have gone from strength to strength, led by their captain Alyssa Healy, who has found form at just the right time in this tournament. After a rather slow start to her campaign, she has roared to life with back-to-back centuries against India and Bangladesh as they march on to reclaim their crown once again.

However, Australia will be without the services of their captain and wicketkeeper after being ruled out of the game due to what is being perceived to be a ‘minor calf strain’. With the Women in Yellow already through to the semifinals, it is wise to give her that rest rather than risk her availability for the later stages. Tahlia McGrath will take the captaincy duties for the game.

Apart from Healy, there have been a multitude of performers across the board for the defending champions. The likes of Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, and Ash Gardner along with Beth Mooney have all contributed with crucial knocks and wickets, giving them a much more formidable look on a whole.

Their opponents, England, have also been a rather consistent side save for two batting wobbles against Bangladesh and Pakistan respectively. However, they showed how capable they are in big games as they held their nerve with some peerless performances in their narrow 4-run victory against India.

Heather Knight has found form, Nat Sciver-Brunt continues to thrive in this new role as captain, making some superb in-game decisions coupled with her elite performances with both bat and ball in this tournament. Spin duo Sophie Ecclestone and Linsey Smith have been excellent as well, particularly in the game against India as they put the chokehold on India’s batters when a victory for them felt only like a matter of time.

This game also gives England an opportunity to restore a bit of parity in a rivalry that has been predominantly dominated by their Australian counterparts. The ill-fated Ashes tour still is fresh in the minds of the England players, where they failed to win a single game, and how they would love to get their lick back against them. Coincidentally, Australia were the side that beat England in the final of the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup as well.

Both sides are filled with quality to the brim, and have extremely good squad depth. However, we will have to give the edge to the Australians given their recent record against England as well as their performances in the tournament as well.

Fantasy 11: Phoebe Litchfield, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Ellyse Perry, Nat Sciver-Brunt ( c ), Beth Mooney, Amy Jones (wk), Heather Knight, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith.

Venue: Holkar Stadium, Indore.

Winners Prediction: Australia.
