Dr. S. Y. Quraishi, a member of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) that is currently overseeing the functioning of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), has announced that the India U17 women’s national team’s assistant coach has been sacked for alleged sexual misconduct.
Quraishi made the announcement on his Twitter handle, announcing the same.
The incident first came to light when the AIFF released a statement on June 30, stating that a member of the team was called back after events of misconduct were reported from the camp in Norway, where the team are participating in the Open Nordic Tournament WU16.
Following the announcement, Dr. Quraishi has also stated that further action will be taken against the individual in question, with the AIFF already conducting an internal investigation. Further details and an official statement from the AIFF is awaited.
It is a big year for the Indian U17 women’s national team. After their participation in the Open Nordic Tournament WU16, they are set to play hosts for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup later in October this year, with matches scheduled to be held in Goa, Navi Mumbai and Bhubaneswar. The home team will kick-off their campaign against the USA on October 11 and will face Morocco on October 14 and Brazil on October 17. The Indian team will be playing all of their games at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
