Indian Premier League 2026 | Match 19: Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans| 15:30 IST, 12th April 2026
The Lucknow Super Giants have turned around their fortunes after the opening game defeat against the Delhi Capitals and go into this game with back-to-back victories. However, both of LSG’s wins have been edge-of-the-seat thrillers with new heroes emerging every game. Their most recent win came against the Kolkata Knight Riders where they were in a spot of bother chasing a competitive total at the Eden Gardens.
Bowling first, LSG bowled well to restrict a dangerous KKR batting lineup to a par score of 181/4. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ajinka Rahane continued their top form but couldn’t convert it into big scores, both getting out on 40+ scores. Rovman Powell then scored 39 not out off 24 balls to take his side to a good total. Digvesh Rathi was the pick of the LSG bowlers as he bowled a stingy spell of 1/25 from his four overs alongside Mohammed Shami who went wicketless but didn’t let the KKR batter score a lot off him bowling.
In response, the LSG top order didn’t really help as they were reduced to 73/3 in 8.2 overs. Young Ayush Badoni (54 off 34 balls) took the charge with newbie Mukul Choudhary (54 not out off 27 balls) producing an incredible match-winning performance to take his side home off the last ball of the match.
Their opponents Gujarat Titans also didn’t have a great start to the tournament. The former IPL champions had two losses out of two before the close win against the Delhi Capitals a few days back. They travelled to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the game.
Batting first, GT managed to post a huge total of 210/4 with Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill running riot in the early overs. Buttler scored 52 off 27 balls before Kuldeep Yadav got him out. At one point, it looked like GT were going past 230+ but disciplined bowling from DC in the last five overs kept the scoreline decent. Shubman Gill was the top-scorer with 70 off 45 balls while Washington Sundar also scored a half-century. Most DC bowlers took a hit as they were clobbered all over the pitch.
In response, DC openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul started well too and DC were looking comfortable at 63/0 at the end of the powerplay. However, they lost a few quick wickets and started to look nervy. Rahul kept going on at the other end until he was caught out for 92 off 52 balls. David Miller took the game to the last over and with two runs required off two balls, a rare error from him saw GT win the game by a solitary run – another blockbuster, edge-of-the-seat thriller which the GT fans would have enjoyed as it earned them their first win of the season. Rashid Khan bowled beautifully for the Titans taking 3/17 in his four-over spell and was ably supported by Kagiso Rabada who also bowled quite well.
The good news for the Gujarat Titans will be to see their top order coming back to form, especially Jos Buttler who was off colour throughout the T20 World Cup. Even though they won the game, the Titans bowling leaves a lot to be desired as the rest of their bowlers barring Rashid Khan bowled poor lines and lengths and their batting is still heavily reliant on the top order.
As for the hosts, LSG are starting to look more confident as the games have gone on. Their batting isn’t dependent on 2 or 3 players as the youngsters are stepping up and making it count. Their bowling has looked very good, even in the game they lost. Mohammed Shami is leading the pace battery with superb performances so far and the rest are supporting him well. Their only worry would be the form of Nicholas Pooran who has looked ordinary so far. It’s scary to think what would happen when he starts firing.
Due to the confidence and momentum gained in the last two matches, we would be leaning towards Rishabh Pant’s team for this match. The LSG bowling and batting have started to click while GT still have issues to sort out in both areas. This could be another exciting encounter as the Lucknow pitch is good for batting and we could witness a high-scoring encounter.
Fantasy XI: Jos Buttler, Aidan Markram, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (c)(wk), Ayush Badoni, Washington Sundar, Mukul Choudhary, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Digvesh Rathi, Mohammed Shami.
Venue: Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
