Delhi Land and Finance (DLF), a real estate development company, became the IPL’s first-ever title sponsor for the opening season back in 2008. The organisation remained in this role till 2012.
The agreement was further extended before the 2012 IPL season.
Pepsi, the global soft drink giant, took over as the IPL title sponsor after DLF from 2013 to 2015. According to reports, the initial five-year deal that was reportedly worth ?396 crore.
However, three seasons into the agreement, Pepsi decided to withdraw from the deal prematurely due to threats of a corruption scandal brewing within the tournament.
Chinese mobile manufacturing company Vivo picked up the IPL title sponsorship rights for a two-year deal that covered the league’s 2016 and 2017 seasons for a reported ?100 crore.
As the deal commenced, Vivo vowed to return as the IPL title sponsor on a five-year deal reportedly worth ?2,199 crore. However, the deal was cut short with Vivo in 2020 due to a military face-off between India and China. Soon after, however, the company would return as the IPL title sponsor in 2021, making its last appearance in this capacity.
Dream11, an Indian fantasy sports company, took over the title sponsorship rights of the IPL for a solitary campaign in 2020 when it signed a deal reportedly worth ?222 crore.
One of India’s biggest conglomerates, TATA bagged the title sponsorship rights of the IPL in a deal reportedly worth ?355 crore per year for the 2022 and 2023 editions of the tournament.
TATA has since signed a new deal to continue as the IPL title sponsor from 2024 to 2028 in a deal reportedly worth ?2,500 crore, making this the highest-ever sponsorship amount for any deal in IPL history.
