LA Thieves beat Atlanta FaZe to win maiden Call of Duty League Championship

The Los Angeles Thieves beat the Atlanta FaZe 5-2 at the Call of Duty League Championship finals to take home their first-ever CoD League Championship and took home the grand prize of US$1.2 million.

It was quite the turnaround for the Thieves, who at one point were at the risk of missing the Playoffs early on due to a host of inconsistent performance, but when it mattered most, at the Major Four, they stood up and bagged the trophy. 

In the Grand Finals, the Thieves got a map veto advantage as a result of qualifying through the upper bracket. They started off with Gavutu Hardpoint and Control and were untouchable on Hardpoint. While they won on Gavutu Control and Tuscan Hardpoint, the FaZe managed to avoid a complete whitewash by winning Bocage Search and Destroy. The LA Thieves won Berlin Control to go 4-2 up and in the final match on Tuscan Search and Destroy. The Thieves fought tooth and nail to make sure the FaZe couldn’t mount a comeback.

Dylan “Envoy” Hannon commented:

“We plot like 4 ARs on P4 and P5, those are probably our two best hills on the map. 

“And then when it comes to the other hills, me and Ken, once we get going in the staircases of P2 we’re just getting a lot of kills and pushing out, it just feels really easy. And it feels great that coming into the grand finals from winners we get to dictate a lot of the maps.

“I haven’t had the best Champs runs and I finally did it. It’s great that we could be here in LA in front of the home crowd.“

Octane spoke about beating the home favourites, stating:

“I love that sh*t. Playing against the crowd is one of my favourite things, I’ve done it my entire career – most predominantly against OpTic, which is when you notice it the most – but playing against the crowd is always more fun.“

Kenny added:

“I don’t think there’s any match or any team right now that I’m looking to play, I think we’re the team to beat so, Grand Finals [is the goal].“

The win gives the Thieves members Kenny, Envoy, Drazah, and Octane their first championship ring. Kenny was crowned the MVP of the tournament as well. 

Next up for the Thieves is the CDL Champs worth US$2.55 million, where they will face Boston Breach.
