Spanish football league LaLiga has confirmed that its partnership with Banco Santander will cease following the 2022/23 campaign.
LaLiga started working with the Boadilla del Monte-headquartered Spanish financial institution at the start of the 2016/17 campaign. The two parties successfully campaigned for and enabled a number of collaborative projects, having worked on several large initiatives together over the course of their six seasons together, including LaLiga Promises (under-12 football) and Santander being the Spanish footballing topflight’s title sponsor.
During the first coronavirus lockdown, LaLiga and Banco Santander joined forces to continue entertaining fans and launched #LaLigaSantanderFest, an online festival in which fifty artists and soccer players met to raise funds for COVID-19 relief.
Commenting on the deal, the President of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, said:
“We are grateful for the trust they have placed in LaLiga during these years and we are convinced that we will continue to collaborate in future projects with Banco Santander for the growth and promotion of both brands.”
Antonio Simões, Regional Head of Europe and CEO of Santander Spain, also stated:
“We are delighted with our collaboration with LaLiga during all these years and encouraged to explore other avenues of collaboration.”
