Top 3 most valuable sponsorship deals in Indian cricket history

Sports sponsorship in today’s world is practically mandatory for teams, athletes, or any sporting event in general. Many organisations provide financial support to teams or athletes in exchange for brand exposure.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest governing body in world cricket. With the sport enjoying immense popularity in the Indian subcontinent, there has been no dearth of jersey sponsorships for Team India, many of which have fetched mouth-watering amounts.

Here, we look at the three biggest sponsorship deals in the history of Indian national team cricket.

OPPO

Chinese consumer electronics brand OPPO signed with the BCCI a five-year contract worth a whopping INR 1,079 crore, which came into effect in April 2017.

This was by far the biggest sponsorship deal signed by the BCCI at the time. OPPO beat the only other bid of INR 768 crore from rival brand Vivo.

The BCCI had set a minimum reserve price at INR 538 crore. The per-match payment from OPPO was approximately INR 4.61 crore for a bilateral series and INR 1.51 crore per match for ICC tournaments.

As per the deal, the brand’s logo appeared on India’s senior, U19, and A men’s and women’s national teams’ kits. OPPO exited the deal in 2019 after deeming the return on investment too low to continue.

Apollo Tyres

Dream11 exited its Team India kit-sponsorship agreement in August 2025, after the Indian government passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025, which made real money–based betting apps as well as their promotion illegal.

In September 2025, the BCCI roped in Gurugram-based Apollo Tyres as the new Team India lead sponsor. The deal, signed for two-and-a-half years and worth INR 579 crore, covers all formats of international cricket, including bilateral series and ICC matches for all Indian national cricket teams. The base price set by the BCCI is INR 3.5 crore for bilateral games and INR 1.5 crore for World Cup games.

As per the deal, the Apollo Tyres logo features on the jerseys of all Indian men’s and women’s national teams across all formats and age categories.

Nike

American sportswear company Nike ended its 14-year partnership with Team India in September 2020, when the BCCI decided to open a new tender to invite other sponsors.

The last renewal deal signed by Nike was worth INR 370 crore for a four-year period from 2016 until September 2020. As per the deal, Nike provided matchday and training kits as well as accessories to all Indian national cricket teams across all gender and age categories. Nike also had sole rights for the sale of Team India merchandise and paid the BCCI INR 88 lakh per match, approximately INR 6 crore per year, with royalty on kit sales amounting to INR 10 crore per year.

Due to the COVID pandemic leading to a loss of revenue, Nike had requested an extension to its four-year contract or a renewal at a discounted price, which led to the BCCI deciding on a fresh tender with a different kit supplier. MPL Sports and Killer (KKCL) took over the role for a while before German sportswear giant Adidas agreed to a five-year contract in 2023 to become the new Team India kit maker until 2028.
