Tennis legend Serena Williams (41) and veteran actor Brian Cox (76) will star in Michelob Ultra’s 2023 Super Bowl ad. The 15-second commercial teaser hints at the putt-putt battle and a retro Caddyshack-themed storyline.
Alongside Williams and Cox, the full ad will be packed with legendary athletes from varied sports. Some of the athletes included are US Women’s National Soccer Team star Alex Morgan, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, and professional boxing star Canelo Álvarez.
Themed on the 1980 film Caddyshack, the teaser shows the 23-time Grand Slam champion going head-to-head with the patriarch from HBO’s hit series Succession.
The teaser opens up with a shot of sprinklers on a golf course. Brian Cox, in a pink polo and his usual stern facial expression, takes the first swing on the ball. Williams, in her matching purple outfit and cap, then takes her turn at the tee.
As the story moves forward, Williams and Cox continue swinging, each stroke becoming more delicate as a crowd of intrigued golfers gather around the pair. The 41-year-old even pulls off a Caddyshack move by kneeling down on the grass and gently hitting the ball with the top of her club.
The 15-second teaser ends with a close-up shot of the golf ball rolling into a hole with a text reading “Bushwood Country Club Reopening 02.12.2023”, referencing the name of the fictional golf club in Harold Ramis’ comedic film and the date of the 2023 Super Bowl.
The commercial is set to drop during Super Bowl LVII, which is scheduled to take place on February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
