Cricket in 2025 has brought many fabulous and entertaining moments to fans all over the world. From thrilling series upsets to last day Test match wins to ICC Tournament wins, this year has been a feast for cricket lovers all over the globe.

P.S. All match-related stats have been taken from www.espncricinfo.com .

Let’s take a look at the Top 10 Cricket Moments from 2025 –

10. Zimbabwe end a Test win drought

Zimbabwe cricket has been struggling for a long time now due to financial and management issues but recently the Zimbabwean fans finally had something to cheer about.

In a one-off Test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at the Harare Sports Club in Oct 2025, Zimbabwe imposed a crushing defeat on the Afghans with an innings and 73 runs. This win ended their 24-year drought for a Test match win.

Last time they won a test match was against Bangladesh in 2001. Batting first, Afghanistan crumbled for a paltry 127 runs with Rahamanullah Gurbaz the only one offering any resistance with 37 runs off 37 balls.  Brad Evans bowled beautifully for the Zimbabweans to take a fifer (5/22).

The hosts then posted a massive 359 in response, thanks to a solid batting display. Ben Curran (121 off 256 balls) was the star of the show with support from Sikandar Raza (65 off 88 balls) and Nick Welch (49 off 89 balls). Afghanistan’s Ziaur Rahman ended with figures of 7/97.

In their second innings, Afghanistan’s batting collapsed yet again with only Ibrahim Zadran and Bahir Shah getting past 30+ runs. Richard Ngarava ended up with figures of 5/37 and alongside Blessing Muzarabani (3/48) helped his side win the match by an innings and 73 runs.

A rare happy moment for Zimbabwe Cricket which could bolster their confidence to improve and challenge the top teams going forward.

9. India-W script a historic T20 Series win in England

The Indian Women’s team has been labelled as poor travellers due to their disappointing performances in away tours before but recently they changed this narrative with a historic T20 Series win away in England along with winning an ODI series in England after 25 years.

In 2025, England-Women hosted the India-W team for a three-match ODI series and a 5-match T20I Series which India ended up winning 2-1 and 3-2 respectively.

The T20I series also showed Indian’s strength in the shortest format where they won the series in the fourth game, leading by an unassailable margin of 3-1. England did comeback in the last game to make it a 3-2 win for India. Nallapureddy Charani was adjudged the Player of the Series, taking 10 wickets in 5 T20I games.

India also won the ODI series 2-1, having defeated England in the first and the third ODI, courtesy of a brilliant team performance. Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the Player of the Series award for her superb performances with the bat. Young quickie Kranti Goud too had a memorable series, taking 9 wickets in three matches.

Since India hadn’t won a T20I series in England before, this was indeed an unprecedented win and therefore it counts as one of the moments of 2025 in cricket.

8. Men in Blue won the first-ever 2025 T20 Asia Cup, yet to receive the winner’s trophy.

The Men in Blue have showcased why they are the best T20I side in the world in recent years. After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, the world champions entered the first-ever 2025 Asia Cup (T20 format) this year as the favourites.

They didn’t disappoint either, going unbeaten in the competition and beating Pakistan comprehensively in the finals to win the trophy. Batting first, Pakistan could only manage 146 in their 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan turned up with a well-made fifty for Pakistan alongside Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35 balls) but no one else contributed much. Kuldeep Yadav destabilised the Pakistan innings with 4/30 from his four overs.

Chasing the target, India found itself in trouble, losing three early wickets but Tilak Varma guided India home comfortably in the end with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls with the help of Shivam Dube’s cameo (33 off 22 balls). Faheem Ashraf was the performer with the ball for Pakistan with 4/29 from his four overs.

India wasn’t handed the Asia Cup winner’s Trophy as the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi walked off the stadium with the trophy and medals with Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav failing to receive the winner’s trophy. The Indian players celebrated the win, lifting an imaginary trophy for the photo-ops.

This was an unprecedented situation where a winning team didn’t receive the trophy – even though controversial but a happy moment that the Indian fans will certainly remember from 2025.

7. Associate nation Nepal’s stunning T20I series win against West Indies

Associate Nations like Nepal, USA, Oman, UAE etc. rarely get to compete with a full member in a series but when they do get an opportunity, it’s a great chance to create a beautiful underdog story.

One such moment happened in September 2025 in Sharjah, UAE. Nepal played in a three-match T20I series against the West Indies and ended up stunning the former World champions. Nepal won the first two games of the series, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead and the Caribbeans could only avoid the embarrassment of a whitewash by winning the third game and ending the series 2-1.

It was the West Indies batting that let them down yet again but kudos to the Nepal team for showing that they can compete with the best teams. Nepal outplayed West Indies in every department of the game, deservedly winning the series. Kushal Bhurtel of Nepal was awarded the Player of the Series for being the highest wicket-taker in the series.

Cricket is gaining popularity and the interest in the sport is growing by leaps and bounds. As the Associate Nations get more opportunities to go head-to-head with Member nations, their quality and competitiveness will only improve and we will see many such upsets rather than predictable results in future tournaments.

6. Highest chase in Women’s ODI by Team India in the 2025 ODI World Cup Semi-final

In the recently concluded Women’s ODI World Cup, Indian Women’s team did the unthinkable. In the Semi-final, Team India pulled off a heist, chasing a mammoth 338 runs and knocking out the defending champions Australia in sensational fashion.

In this World Cup Semi-final game, Australia batted first and with the help of Phoebe Litchfield (119 from 93 balls), Ellyse Perry (77 off 88 balls) and Ashleigh Gardner (63 off 45 balls), Australia set a massive total of 338 for India. However, the much-famed Indian batting didn’t disappoint and with the help of Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 of 134 balls, captain Harmanpreet’s 89 off 88 balls and crucial cameos from Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and Amanjot Kaur, India powered towards the victory and a world record chase with five wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.

In doing so, they also broke the highest chase record set by this very same opponent in the league stage match when Australia chased a target of 330 set by India.

It was a chase for the ages and coming in a high pressure Semi-final, its one all cricket fans will definitely remember for years.

5. Men in Blue winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025

The Indian cricket team reinforced their supremacy in white ball cricket by winning the 2025 Champions Trophy this year. India went into the tournament as one of the favourites and rightly so.

Team India romped into the finals without dropping a match. India defeated Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stages, defeated Australia in the Semis and New Zealand in the final to  lift the Champions Trophy after a hiatus of 12 years.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul shone with the bat while Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy and Mohammed Shami performed with the ball for India.

Barring the 2023 ODI World Cup where they suffered a heart-breaking loss in the final, India has won the other two white ball ICC tournaments, showing the world that they are currently the best team in the shorter formats.

Winning the CT for the third time and after a hiatus of 12 years was indeed memorable for the cricket crazy fans in the Indian subcontinent.

4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning their first IPL Trophy

Though this moment comes from the Indian Premier League (IPL), it certainly was one of the most awaited moments for legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli and the huge legion of RCB fans all over the world.

Since the inception of the IPL, Virat Kohli has maintained his loyalty towards the Bengaluru-based franchise and came close to winning the trophy several times but failed. RCB reached the IPL final in three seasons – 2009, 2011 and 2016 but couldn’t clear the final hurdle.

However, 2025 was the year of unpredictable wins in sport and it seemed like this could finally be the year RCB and Virat Kohli too got their due.

They started off the blocks well in the group stages and after the 14 games, they were placed second in the table and making automatic qualification to the play-offs. They ended up beating the table-toppers Punjab Kings in the final to lift the coveted trophy.

An 18-year wait finally ended for the hugely popular Bengaluru franchise and Virat Kohli who had won everything else in international cricket and was desperate to add this one trophy to his glittering cabinet of awards and honours.

This certainly was one of the most unforgettable moments from the world of cricket in 2025.

3. A new-look Team India drew the Anderson-Tendulkar Series 2-2 in England

As the Indian legendary batting duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test Cricket in tandem, the Indian selectors were left stranded with a very crucial Test Series in England approaching this summer. Losing two of their best batsmen and also their experience was going to be very difficult to replace. However, the Indian coach and selectors had to deal with the situation and they sent a particularly inexperienced batting lineup and a newly appointed Test Captain to England.

The Indian team started the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on the backfoot with England winning the first test by chasing a mammoth 371 runs in the fourth innings. India then made a comeback in the second test – thanks to a scintillating batting performance from their Captain Shubman Gill and won by a huge margin of 336 runs. The Third Test at Lord’s was a really close game with the Indian top order collapsing in the fourth innings but Ravindra Jadeja held fort with the lower-order batters. However, England managed to squeeze a win by 22 runs.

The Fourth Test was drawn by India, thanks to some stoic fourth innings batting performance from the Indian batting lineup where KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja all scored big runs to draw the Test Match.

The Final test arrived with England having a 2-1 Lead in the series and India’s backs against the wall. This one went right down to the last session on the last day – ending in a mighty close win for the Indians. Pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj brought on his A-game on the last day, taking a fifer and leading India to a 6 runs win and drawing the series.

With a young captain and an inexperienced batting lineup, most expected India to capitulate in this series against a strong England team captained by the brilliant Ben Stokes. However, matches aren’t won on paper and India didn’t give up till the last day of the series and came away with an admirable draw due to their resilience and mental strength – another fantastic moment to savour for not just Indian fans but cricket lovers in general.

2. Indian Women’s Cricket Team winning the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup

The co-hosts of the World Cup, Team India finally won their first ICC trophy after several heartbreaks in the previous editions of the ODI and T20 World Cups.Though they broke the jinx by peaking at the absolute perfect time. India had lost three straight matches in the league phase, prompting the fans to think this was going to be yet another dismal World Cup campaign. However, the Women in Blue turned around their fortunes with great team performances against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa in the crucial matches to take home the coveted ODI World Cup Trophy on 2nd November 2025.

Their Semi-final performance was the most memorable one as they chased down a massive target of 338 runs against seven times World Cup winners Australia. The Indian opening batting was the hallmark of their campaign with Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal amongst the top run getters in the tournament. The ever reliable Deepti Sharma shone with both the bat and ball, taking the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award home for her incredible performances throughout the tournament.

This was not only a memorable moment for the Indian cricket fans but a watershed moment for Women’s Cricket in the country that could inspire generations of little girls to take up the sport.

1.South Africa won the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final

The South African team qualified for the World Test Championship for the first time, facing Australia in the final at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.

The South Africans who have a long history of losing in ICC Tournaments, went into this final as the underdogs against the mighty Aussies. What unfolded though was an amazing result for the Proteas fans who had waited for decades to see their team win an ICC Tournament.

Led by a superb captain in Temba Bavuma, the Proteas bowled well in Australia’s first innings but struggled with the bat in their first innings, only managing to score a paltry 138 and conceding a lead of 74 runs to the Baggy Greens. The Proteas bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada then came back well in Australia’s second innings, bowling them out for 207 which gave them a reasonable target of 281 to chase in the fourth innings. Opener Aiden Markram scored a memorable 136 runs innings to take his side home with the help of a gutsy knock of 66 runs from his captain Bavuma.

This ranks as the best cricket moment of 2025 as it was a long time coming for the Proteas and their fans after several close encounters. Also, they beat a very strong Aussie team against all odds and an ICC Trophy finally  headed to South Africa at last!
