Just two days after facing each other, the UP Warriorz take on the Mumbai Indians again looking to gather some momentum and stitch together two victories in a row in Match 10 of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
For the game, here we present our preview and predictions.
The Warriorz finally opened their account for the season last time out by comfortably beating the defending champions yesterday, securing a seven-wicket win with 11 balls to spare. It gave new skipper Meg Lanning her first victory in the UPW yellow, with her side thoroughly outplaying MI with an all-round performance.
The Warriorz’ bowling attack was at its best, with Shikha Pandey, Deepti Sharma, and Sophie Ecclestone all making sure that the power-packed MI batting line-up received neither an inch nor any freebies as they choked the flow of runs with their variations. Even their fielding was a marked improvement from before, with Chloe Tryon’s catch to dismiss Harmanpreet Kaur being particularly impressive.
But the real change was in their batting. Harleen Deol seemed like she had a point to prove after she was unceremoniously retired out in the previous game and batted with intent and aggression hitherto unseen from her. She kept taking the attack to the MI bowlers and was impressively supported from the other end by Phoebe Litchfield and Chloe Tryon.
In a season where their performances have mostly been inconsistent, this performance was a much-needed shot in the arm for the Warriorz, and they will seek to continue this upward trajectory.
For the Mumbai Indians, there were lessons to be learned after their positive momentum was nipped after two convincing victories. They have a few issues to contend with, and the opening combination happens to be the one that needs a quick and prompt solution.
Yesterday, it was Amanjot Kaur who came in along with Gunalan Kamalini to open the innings, but there was no change in fortunes as both of them limped to the second-slowest score in the Powerplay this WPL season. It proved to be a huge difference in what they could have scored, and what they actually did.
While Nat Sciver-Brunt and Nicola Carey did provide late pyrotechnics to take the score above 160, it was an under-par score and was chased down with some degree of ease by the Warriorz.
Despite the loss in the reverse fixture, however, we still consider the Mumbai Indians the overwhelming favourites for Match 10. They have the better squad and the better personnel and will definitely be looking to right their wrongs from the previous encounter.
Fantasy XI: Meg Lanning, Phoebe Litchfield (wk), Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Nicola Carey, Shabnim Ismail, Shikha Pandey
Venue: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai
