With just under a month remaining for the auction of the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, all teams have released their lists of players who they have retained for the season, and the ones who they have released for the upcoming season.
A total of 27 slots will have to be filled by the 5 teams, with 63 players being retained by the respective sides.
The biggest news is that Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has announced that she will be available for the tournament this edition, after she had missed the 2026 edition of the tournament owing to personal reasons. The news comes as a massive boost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side, who will start the 2027 season as defending champions.
But with Perry coming in, RCB have let go of Grace Harris, which is a massive shock given that she was one of the fiercest batters last season, with an astonishing strike rate of 178.19. She was time and again responsible for bailing out her side from sticky situations, and her 237 runs is testament to that fact.
There have been a lot of surprising player releases from sides, with Lizelle Lee being one of the big names who will be in the auction pool. The South African wicketkeeper-batter was one of Delhi Capitals’ star performers last season, providing the side with fast starts with her aggressive batting style up the order. In all, she scored 320 runs in the 10 games that she played last season, making her the highest run-scorer for her side.
Apart from Lee, DC also have released all-rounder Sneh Rana, keeper-bat Taniya Bhatia, Pragati Singh, and Eddla Srujana.
UP Warriorz have unsurprisingly been the most active side, releasing as many as 9 players, with Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon, Shweta Sehrawat, Amy Jones, and Charlie Knott among the casualties. The number of releases means that the Warriorz will have the highest available purse as they enter the auction which will be held in Kochi next month.
The Gujarat Giants released England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge, citing that they will be looking for overseas batters with a varied skillset. Another factor in her release is her availability, with England reported to be playing a series around the time of the WPL season kicking off.
Mumbai Indians have released 7 players themselves, with Saika Ishaque being the big name among the list. Ishaque was a key contributor in MI’s two IPL titles and her omission comes as a slight surprise to many, although she did play just a solitary game in the 2026 season, meaning that MI felt there was enough cover in the spin-bowling department.
However, despite releasing 7 players themselves, MI will have the lowest purse among all the teams in the auction, making their job to bolster their side just that bit harder. With MI still relying on their core that has brought them two WPL titles, it is not a surprise that their strategy will be inclined towards getting good depth in the side.
Each team will have to have a maximum of 18 players to fill with 7 slots for Overseas Players.
