2025 FIFA Club World Cup | Group A: FC Porto vs Al Ahly FC | Preview and Prediction

Portugal’s FC Porto and Egypt’s Al Ahly face each other in what is a must-win game for both the sides in this Group A fixture of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Here is our preview and prediction for the game.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup | Group A: FC Porto vs Al Ahly FC | 06:30 AM, 24th June

FC Porto have had a rather shoddy tournament against the general expectation from them given the matchup they have and the quality they possess within their ranks. The Dragons started their tournament with a goalless draw against Brazilian side Palmeiras and were dominated by them in almost all aspects of that match. Palmeiras dominated the ball, had the lion’s share of big chances and on the face of it were rather unlucky to gain no points regardless.

To compound matters even more further, Porto then slumped to a 2-1 defeat against the Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami. They started off in the most positive way as Samu Aghehowa converted an 8th-minute penalty. But everything went downhill from there as goals from Telasco Segovia and an out-of-the-world free kick by the Argentinian magician himself meant that Porto went away empty-handed and with their tails between their legs.

The game against Al Ahly presents a very simple scenario for Porto: win and win big, while hoping that the Palmeiras and the Inter Miami game does not end in a draw of any kind. While the scenario is simple, the task is anything but. Porto will have their mettle tested in all aspects and how they come out of it could decide the outcome of this contest.

Egyptian side Al Ahly are one of the very few sides in this tournament who have the dubious distinction of not scoring a single goal so far in the tournament. While they started with a very creditable goalless draw against Inter Miami, they stumbled big time against Palmeiras, losing 2-0 to them and finding themselves in the same situation as their opponents.

Al Ahly also have to win decisively and with a big margin given their goal difference stands at an inferior -2 after two games. It is a huge task to expect a side to score at least 4 goals when they have not scored a single goal so far. A highly unlikely scenario.

Expect FC Porto to emerge victorious in this contest, but qualification to the next stage looks unlikely for either side in this game, irrespective of who wins.

Score Prediction: FC Porto 2-0 Al Ahly FC

Venue: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
