French fashion house Dior last week named tennis champion Zheng Qinwen its new global brand ambassador. According to certain reports, the Chinese star will be replacing British tennis player Emma Raducanu as the face of Dior.
The 22-year-old Chinese athlete became the first Asian tennis player to win gold in singles at the Paris Olympics. Nicknamed “Queen Wen” by fans, she is currently world number five in the Women’s Tennis Association’s ranking.
She will be a new face for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s womenswear at the brand, seamlessly integrating into the athletic influences that the Italian has tapped into since becoming Dior’s creative director in 2016.
The French fashion house said in a statement:
“Zheng embodies the elegance and boldness of Dior style, a femininity in perpetual motion. More than ever, this unique alliance seals the house’s commitment to empowerment and self-assertion, spotlighting the multiple connections that unite the worlds of sport and couture.”
Speaking on her latest association with Dior, Zheng said:
“I think it’s my pleasure to have Dior with me. Since I was 16 years old, Dior has been one of my favorite brands. I had a nice shooting experience with them. When the picture comes up, I am actually the most happy one. [I said] … ‘good pictures, I love it.’
“When you have sponsors like this, I think you need to make sure you also have the correct behavior inside and outside the court ’cause you want to match with those high brands. For me, Dior is a very, very high brand, everybody knows.
“I am just happy to work with them and thanks that they chose me because there are a lot of Olympic champions. I just say I’m lucky. Sometimes I really feel I’m a bit lucky.”
