The Curtain-raiser for the brand new 2026-27 European season proper will see UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain take on the Europa League winners Aston Villa for the UEFA Super Cup, with Unai Emery once again coming face-to-face against his former employers in what promises to be a tasty clash between the two sides.

Here is our Preview and Predictions for the game.

UEFA Super Cup 2026 | Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa | 00:30 IST, 13th August, 2026

PSG have now won back-to-back Champions League titles and have bonafide claims of currently being the best club side in the world. Under Luis Enrique, they have ascended to the top of the pile and by the looks of it, have no intentions of relinquishing that mantle so soon.

PSG have played 2 pre-season games so far, against RCD Mallorca and Manchester United. In both the games, Enrique gave playing time to multiple academy graduates before bringing on the big guns in the second half of both games. A 3-0 loss to Mallorca was followed by a 1-1 draw against Man United which culminated in a good boost for the Rouge et Bleu in terms of getting minutes as well as match-sharpness under their belt.

On the other side, Aston Villa have been a rather busy team in terms of building match-fitness, having already played 6 pre-season games starting from July itself. Their latest game against Bayern Munich was a good one in terms of shaping up to elite opponents as it puts them in a good place to face PSG.

Aston Villa have had a few ins and outs in terms of players as well, with Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Lucas Digne moving to Chelsea, Man United, and PSG respectively, while Amadou Onana is out with an ACL tear suffered in the World Cup.

However, they have made a few signings as well. Johan Manzambi comes in after a highly impressive World Cup for Switzerland, Joao Gomes signs from Wolves, and Alejandro Garnacho is on loan from Chelsea.

The two teams met in the 2024/25 season of the Champions League in the Quarter Finals with Aston Villa giving the eventual champions an almighty scare across both legs, but eventually ending up in heroic failure as the Parisians went through by the skin of their teeth in what was a very tense 5-4 aggregate, despite PSG losing 3-2 at Villa Park.

However, Villa are a different team since then, with Rogers and Marcus Rashford, two of their scorers in that game not with the team anymore. PSG themselves are a much different team since that game as well, with Lucas Digne and Maghnes Akliouche getting on board alongside the galaxy of stars they already have at their disposal.

We believe that PSG are the far superior side, have already won the Super Cup last year beating English opposition and also have a great record against English sides, making them the overwhelming favourites to beat Aston Villa. But as always, do not count against Aston Villa making life difficult for the 2-time European Champs.

Score Predictions: PSG 4-2 Aston Villa

Venue: Red Bull Arena, Salzburg.
