As Forbes released its latest list of the highest-paid football players in the world for the year 2023, we thought why not compile our own list of the highest-paid footballers in the top five European leagues? 

Although most of the German Bundesliga clubs are fan-owned, that doesn’t mean the likes of FC Bayern Munich are misers when it comes to paying big salaries to some of their stars. And given the stronghold they have over the league, it isn’t surprising to see that all ten footballers featured here play for Die Bayern. 

So, without any further ado, let’s take a look at the ten highest-paid footballers in 1. Bundesliga.

10. Kim Min-jae | FC Bayern Munich

Gross p/w: €230,769 | Gross p/y: €12 million 

A monster of a centre-back, South Korean international Kim Min-jae helped SSC Napoli win the Serie A last season before joining the German champions in the summer.

Kim is known for his strength, aggressive defending, and ability to read games. Tied to a five-year deal with the Bavarian club, Kim’s €230,769-a-week salary makes him the tenth-highest-paid footballer in the league. 

9. Matthijs de Ligt | FC Bayern Munich

Gross p/w: €307,692 | Gross p/y: €16 million

Matthijs de Ligt has been around the blocks for so long that sometimes it’s hard to believe that he’s still only 24. Regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world currently, the Dutchman’s game has often been compared to FC Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué over the years.

In recent seasons, De Ligt’s development looked stifled in Turin, but following his move to Bayern in June 2022, he has started to show why he is rated so highly.

8. Kingsley Coman | FC Bayern Munich

After two failed spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, it is safe to say that 27-year-old France international Kingsley Coman has found a home in Bavaria with the German champions.

Once regarded as one of the most promising talents of his generation, Coman has matured into one fine player for both club and country. A technically-gifted winger with an abundance of versatility and an intelligence to read games effectively, Coman was tied down to a new five-year deal by Bayern in January 2022. 

7. Leon Goretzka | FC Bayern Munich

One of the unsung heroes in a very attack-minded Bayern side, Leon Goretzka’s role in this team is to stop opposition attacks from developing as well as contribute more offensively with his timely runs inside the 18-yard box, making him stand out as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world currently.

Since joining the club in the summer of 2018, the Germany international has made more than 130 senior appearances for them. He signed a five-year deal in September 2021, keeping him at Bayern until June 2026. 

6. Serge Gnabry | FC Bayern Munich

The 28-year-old Germany international is currently regarded as one of the most fearsome wingers in world football. Once deemed unfit for top-flight football during one of his loan spells with West Bromwich Albon FC, Gnabry is now known for his creativity, clinical finishing, and fearsome pace and dribbling.

Gnabry is currently on a four-year, €362,885-per-week deal at Bayern that is set to run until June 2026.

5. Joshua Kimmich | FC Bayern Munich 

Gross p/w: €375,000 | Gross p/y: €19.5 million

Kimmich has long been renowned as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. The 28-year-old has been playing for the Bavarian giants since 2015.

His last contract renewal came in August 2021, as he signed a four-year deal which pays him €375,000 every week. 

4. Leroy Sané | FC Bayern Munich

Known for his frightening pace and excellent dribbling abilities, Leroy Sané is one of the most fearsome wingers in world football currently.

A former FC Schalke academy graduate, Sané gained recognition during his days in England with Manchester City FC. He is currently tied to a five-year deal at Bayern until June 2025. 

3. Thomas Müller | FC Bayern Munich 

Gross p/w: €394,231 | Gross p/y: €20.5 million

There are very few players as intelligent and versatile as this 34-year-old German midfielder. Thomas Müller’s ability to operate in multiple positions along with his tactical awareness makes him stand out as one of the very best footballers in the world.

Müller is currently in the final year of his contract at Bayern. As per the current deal, he makes €394,231 a week. 

2. Manuel Neuer | FC Bayern Munich

A legend at the club, Manuel Neuer has been with Bayern since 2011. One of the very best in his position and arguably one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Neuer has changed the way modern goalkeeping is perceived in world football. 

Currently in the last year of his existing two-year deal with the club, Neuer gets paid €403,846 a week.

Harry Kane got his much-awaited big move last summer after Daniel Levy finally acquiesced to Bayern’s repeated bids, becoming in the process the highest-paid footballer of the Bundesliga.

The 30-year-old Englishman has gelled well with the Bavarian outfit in a very short span of time, becoming the lynchpin of their attack. His current four-year deal fetches him €480,769 per week.
