Canada came through their round of 32 fixture narrowly defeating South Africa to proceed to the next round. Canada lost home advantage in the group stage when they lost to Switzerland in their final group game. This time, they defeated the Netherlands in the Round of 32, scoring a late equaliser and then eventually winning 3–2 on penalties after extra time. Even in regulation time, they were the ones who created the better chances, with the Dutch sitting back and soaking up the pressure. Morocco’s improvement as a team has now reached incredible levels, and they have a really exciting mix of youth and experience in their squad.

Both teams have key performers who will be vital to their progression to the quarter-finals. Morocco don’t have any injuries, but Canada will miss midfielder Ismaël Koné, who has been ruled out of the World Cup with a broken ankle.

Based on squad quality, form, ranking, and the fact that they beat a tough Netherlands side to progress to this round, Morocco will definitely be the favourites going into this fixture. Canada have done well under Jesse Marsch, and a few of their forwards could pose a threat to the Moroccan defence, while Ismaël Saibari, Brahim Díaz, and Achraf Hakimi will be vital for the Moroccan attack.
