The sixth day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games saw Indian athletes bring more laurels to the nation. Gulvir Singh secured a historic silver medal in the 10,000-metre run, while weightlifter Harjinder Kaur also won a silver in the 69kg category.
India have now won seven medals in weightlifting, which includes one gold, five silver medals, and one bronze. Several Indian boxers have also qualified for the semi-finals, ensuring a bronze medal at least. In other news, Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme and New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs took home the 100m gold in athletics.
Here, we look at how things unfolded for India on Day 6 of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Men’s 400m Round 1: Vishal TK (46.49s) qualified for the 400m semi-final, while relay star Rajesh Ramesh crashed out of the competition as he clocked a time of 47.43s, with the cut-off being 46.98s.
Men’s 10,000m run: Gulvir Singh became the first Indian to win a CWG medal in the 10,000m run. He clocked a time of 27:49.78 to bag silver, while Australia’s Ky Robinson won gold.
Women’s high jump: Pooja Singh finished eighth in the women’s high jump final as she failed to clear the 1.82m mark.
Women’s 54kg: Preeti Pawar guaranteed India a medal at CWG 2026 by defeating Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde 5–0 in the women’s 54kg category to reach the semi-finals.
Women’s 60kg: Priya Ghanghas booked her place in the semi-finals with a win against Scottish opponent Niamh Mitchell 4–1 in the 60kg category, ensuring India of at least a bronze medal.
Women’s 65kg: Parveen Hooda bowed out of the competition at the quarter-final stage in the 65kg category, losing to England’s Sacha Hickey by a narrow 2–3 split decision.
Men’s 55kg: Jadumani Singh confirmed a medal in the men’s 55kg category by reaching the semi-finals, defeating Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale 5–0 by unanimous decision.
Men’s 90kg: Kapil Pokhariya’s CWG 2026 campaign ended at the quarter-final stage as he suffered a 5–0 defeat to Scotland’s Robert McNulty in the men’s 90kg category.
Women’s 63kg: Nirupama Devi Seram couldn’t keep the medal count going for India in weightlifting as she ended with a DNF against her name in the women’s 63kg final. Although she had a 93kg attempt recorded in the snatch, she couldn’t log a single clean and jerk attempt, losing out on a final ranking.
Women’s 69kg: India’s Harjinder Kaur clinched a silver medal in the women’s 69kg category with a total lift of 227kg (101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk), breaking both the snatch and clean and jerk Games records with her lifts. However, she was beaten to the gold by Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau, who set the new Games records in both with a 108kg lift in the snatch and a 132kg lift in the clean and jerk.
Men’s 50m butterfly: Sajan Prakash failed to qualify for the men’s 50m butterfly semi-finals after finishing eighth in his heat and 28th overall in the qualifying round. He clocked 24.94 seconds, which was well below his national record of 23.83 seconds.
Men’s 100m backstroke: Srihari Nataraj also disappointed in the men’s 100m backstroke semi-final, finishing 12th overall in the semi-finals, clocking 55.52 seconds and missing a place in the final.
Men’s 50m freestyle S13: Ravi Veera Venkata Bhavani Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam competed in the men’s 50m freestyle S13 final. Budigina finished sixth with a time of 25.68 seconds, while Imam finished eighth in 28.28 seconds.
Men’s Pairs Sectional Play Section B, Round 1: Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar made a stunning comeback in the pairs sectional play to win their first match in a decisive tie-break against the Cook Islands’ Poila Epii and Jason Lindsay. The Indian pair won 2–1 (2–5, 6–5, 1–0) to beat the Cook Islands pair in a closely fought match.
Women’s Singles Sectional Play Section C, Round 1: Indian Nayanmoni Saikia lost her first match 0–2 (7–8, 1–10) to Amy Williams of Wales in the singles sectional play.
Australia continue to dominate the competition with 35 gold medals and an overall tally of 80 medals, with Canada moving into second place with 13 gold medals and England in third place with 10 gold medals. India have slipped one place, to ninth, with two gold medals and 12 medals in total.
