FIFA WC26 | Group A: CZE vs RSA | 21:30 IST, June 18, 2026

Czechia played their opening game against South Korea. It was a battle between two contrasting styles, as the aggressive South Koreans dominated but couldn’t breach the Czech defence in the first half.

In the 59th minute, Czechia scored the opener from a Vladimír Coufal long throw, which Ladislav Krejcí headed into the goal. However, the Koreans drew level eight minutes later from Hwang In-beom’s composed finish into the far corner, with Lee Kang-in providing the assist. Just after Tomáš Soucek was denied by an offside flag, Hwang teed up substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu, who scored the winner in the 80th minute to give his side the much-needed three points.

South Africa, meanwhile, lost their opening game against hosts Mexico, losing 2–0 in a game that was not without drama, as three players were sent off in the tournament opener.

Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane both saw red for South Africa, who had a nightmarish start when goalkeeper Ronwen Williams’ poor pass led to the hosts’ opening goal, with Julián Quiñones opening the scoring inside ten minutes. Sithole was then sent off for a foul on Brian Gutiérrez, who was through on goal in the 49th minute. Raúl Jiménez doubled his side’s lead in the 67th minute when he latched on to Roberto Alvarado’s cross and headed home. Two more red cards were shown: one to Themba Zwane of South Africa, who was sent off for violent conduct, and the second to César Montes of Mexico for fouling Khuliso Mudau in stoppage time, but it was too late for Bafana Bafana to make a comeback.

Both Zwane and Sithole will be unavailable for this fixture due to suspension, while Jan Kuchta might be a doubt for Czechia due to a muscle injury.

This is a must-win for both sides and their hopes of making the knockouts. Czechia will play a defensive style and try to hit South Africa on the counter while also showcasing their set-piece dominance, whereas South Africa will need to break their winless streak of five games if they want all three points. Looking at the two teams, South Africa will miss two key starters, and their recent form has also been dismal, which is why we’re backing Czechia to win this game comfortably.

Score Prediction: Czechia 2–0 South Africa
Venue: Atlanta Stadium, Georgia, USA
