FIFA WC26 | Group L: ENG vs GHA | 01:30 IST, June 24, 2026
England showcased their quality with a top-notch display against Croatia in their first group stage game, winning 4–2 to bag three important points, although it was a tight battle in the first half, as Croatia came back twice to equalise. England asserted their dominance in the second half, however, thoroughly blowing them away.
England striker Harry Kane was yet again in the thick of things with a brace, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also ended on the scoresheet. Martin Baturina and Petar Musa were the scorers for Croatia.
England coach Thomas Tuchel made some smart substitutions in the second half, which helped his team play aggressive football rather than remain on the back foot. Croatia did apply some late pressure, but England saw it through, gaining three massive points and starting their campaign in impressive fashion.
As for their opponents, Ghana too opened their World Cup campaign with a narrow win against Panama, with the goal coming late in stoppage time. Panama had done all the hard work and were looking set to gain their first point at the World Cup before Caleb Yirenkyi stepped up in the dying stages of the game to win his side all three points.
Ghana didn’t have the majority of the possession, as Panama controlled the game and had a chance to score late on, but the Black Stars launched a lightning-quick counterattack, with Yirenkyi tapping home to spark wild celebrations among the Ghana players and supporters.
For this game, Ghana have Lawrence Ati Zigi doubtful due to physical discomfort, while England have a fully fit squad at their disposal.
England have too much quality for Ghana and will be the overwhelming favourites going into this contest. With Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Nico O’Reilly, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka in their side, they have match-winners all over the pitch. As for Ghana, Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew will be key to their attack as they can trouble the English defenders. However, England are simply too strong for the Ghanaians and should win this one comfortably to secure round of 32 qualification.
Score Prediction: England 2–0 Ghana
Venue: Boston Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA
