Euro 2020: German machine now well oiled

That Germany haven’t been a big threat since winning the 2014 World Cup isn’t in doubt. Their recent results would make Die Mannschaft fans look back to their 7-1 triumph over Brazil at the 2014 World Cup with nostalgia.

A recent 6-0 loss to Spain and a 2-1 loss at home to North Macedonia were low moments for the former world champions, while a 1-0 loss to France in their opening game at Euro 2020 struck fears of another impending underperformance at a major competition.

Germany were eliminated at the group stages in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where they went as the defending champions and that marked a high moment of their low returns in world football. A giant that had fallen and after that the team fell apart as blame game reigned.

However, after their opening loss to France at Euro 2020, when Germany need to restore fan confidence, they did it in style. A shaky opening saw them fall behind to Portugal in the 15th minutes after a fine counter attack started and finished by Cristiano Ronaldo. That lead didn’t last long as Germany came out of their cocoon and showed Portugal who’s boss.

Two forced errors saw Portugal score own goals that had Germany 2-1 in the lead going to the break and they added two more goals to seal it in the second half. By the time Portugal got their second goal, it all had the writings of a consolation.

Six goals scored in a Group F game that was termed the Group of Death wasn’t a surprise as it also sunk in as the highest scoring match of the competition after two rounds.

With the competition progressing we definitely expect more goals and very exciting games and these also offer a chance to earn on the gaming side, with the betting sites on Wincomparator. Bookmakers listed there come with ready offers for new registrations; like 1xBet offers a $130 bonus, 888Sport a £30 welcome bonus and 22Bet a €122 bonus, among others.

Germany have never failed at the group stage in consecutive major tournaments and it is highly unlikely that they will here, after their fine showing against Portugal. It is not a secret that they are struggling defensively, and for a side in transition that is expected. However, they can’t be faulted in attack, and the strength in attack seen against Portugal is what will define Germany going forward.

Joachim Loew is doing his final days with the team after a lengthy spell and he will want to exit on a high. Winning the European Cup will make for that and while he understands his team’s weaknesses in defence, how h makes for it in attack is what will push the team to glory.

They don’t seem like they’ll slow down. Germany will try and defend well but one thing is for sure, they will back their attacks with the venom they’ve been known to have and this seems their only way out.

Even though they lost to France in the opening game, Germany were that terrible, but this game at times needs luck to be on your side. At some point in the France loss, thy rode on luck, as France had two goals disallowed.

Going forward, Germany will take lessons from their opening two matches they will be tough to crack, that’s for sure.
