Formula One 2025: Monaco Grand Prix Preview and Predictions

The European triple-header continues as the Formula One grid heads to Monte Carlo for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix.

We head to the Principality for one of the most iconic races on the calendar having been reminded by Max Verstappen that the title race is far from done.

For the 2025 Monaco GP, here are our preview and predictions.

Verstappen’s not done yet

At the beginning of the 2025 Formula One season, it looked like McLaren would run away with the title given their evidently supreme machinery, but reigning world champion Max Verstappen laid down the law in Imola and reminded everyone why he’s No. 1.

With his win in Imola, the Dutchman is back in the Championship picture—22 points behind leader Oscar Piastri and only nine behind Lando Norris.

Monaco is a track where Saturday will most likely decide the outcome of the race. For Verstappen, who has won twice before in the Principality, this will be another opportunity to remind the Woking-based outfit that he’s still in the mix.

Pole position prediction: Oscar Piastri / Max Verstappen
Race winners prediction: McLaren / Red Bull

Williams on the rise

After spending the majority of the last couple of years at the bottom of the grid, Williams have been the surprise of the season thus far. The iconic British team have also brought about a host of changes to their management and driver lineup, which seem to be working well.

Williams have easily been the best of the rest and sit a pretty fifth in the Constructors’ Standings with 51 points after the first seven races. Barring the Bahrain race, the Grove-based side have scored in every race of the season—only in Japan did they fail to get a double points finish.

Strong Saturdays have helped Williams hold the advantage against their midfield rivals. With the likes of Aston Martin and VCARB struggling, they’ve made the most of it.

Williams showed strong race pace in Imola. Carlos Sainz even admitted that they were quicker than Ferrari and Mercedes. Count on Sainz and Alex Albon to do well again in Monaco, and if they have another strong Qualifying, expect Williams to leave the Principality with a strong points haul—or even more!

Aston Martin on the right path?

After a woeful start to the season, Aston Martin finally found some performance in Imola thanks to upgrades, which bodes well for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Aston Martin looked competitive for the first time this season as both cars made Q3 as well.

Alonso qualified a brilliant P5, ahead of both Ferrari drivers and one Mercedes driver, but the two-time world champion was left ruing his chances on Sunday as bad luck came in the form of a mistimed Safety Car and his race came apart. The Spaniard stated that the car could have delivered a P6/P7 finish.

But even though things didn’t go their way in Imola, Aston Martin have shown some fight for the first time this season. Alonso himself finished second here two years ago, and the Silverstone-based outfit have also had some success here in the form of multiple podiums.

The British team will be one to look out for in Monaco. If they can put in another strong Saturday like they did in Imola, there’s plenty of experience and talent in their camp to end their run of races without points.
