Formula One has announced that the upcoming 2023 season will consist of 23 races. Initially, the season was supposed to consist of a record 24 races, but the Chinese Grand Prix has since been called off due to the country’s COVID situation, with Formula One having also revealed that there will not be any replacements.
The season will kick off on March 5, 2023, with the Bahrain Grand Prix and conclude with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 26, 2023. The season will also host the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 18, 2023, and will see the return of the Qatar Grand Prix on October 8, 2023. The race in Lusail, Qatar was introduced during the 2021 season but was not a part of the 2022 championship due to the country hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022.
With the Chinese Grand Prix not being replaced, it means that the calendar has a long gap between the Australian Grand Prix on April 2, 2023, and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on April 30, 2023. The Chinese Grand Prix has not been on the calendar since 2019. All subsequent races in China were cancelled since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
