Bayern Munich of Germany take on Kiwi outfit Auckland City in this Group C clash of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Here’s our preview and predictions for the game.
Bayern Munich are one of the pre-tournament favourites. The German side recently won the Bundesliga and will be itching to add the new Club World Cup trophy to an already stacked trophy cabinet.
The Bavarians have become a well-oiled unit after a year under head coach Vincent Kompany, boasting a good blend of youth and experience. Harry Kane’s all-round game up top, Michael Olise’s nonchalant brilliance, Jamal Musiala’s jinking runs, and Joshua Kimmich’s leadership and creativity from deep ensure Bayern have enough firepower across the pitch.
Another thing worth noting is that this tournament marks club legend Thomas Müller’s last dance in Bayern colours. He’ll be looking to make a major contribution in his team’s quest for more glory and add one more trophy to his personal collection.
However, there are some outgoings from the side as well. Leroy Sané is off to Türkiye to join Süper Lig heavyweights Galatasaray, while defender Kim Min-jae is attracting interest from Saudi clubs. How Bayern deal with these exits remains to be seen.
Auckland City, on the other hand, are an unknown quantity coming into this tournament. They’re the sole representatives from the Oceania Football Confederation and will be aiming for a fruitful experience in their first global outing of such proportions.
The Navy Blues’ league form has been decent — they’re currently third in the Northern League of the New Zealand Regional Leagues. While we expect them to exit at the group stage and pose little threat to Bayern in this game, they’ll be hoping to spring a surprise or two along the way.
Score Prediction: Bayern Munich 4–1 Auckland City
