France vs Morocco | FIFA World Cup 2026 — Quarter-finals | Preview and Prediction

In what is a repeat of the semifinal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, France and Morocco stand in each other’s way once again, albeit this time it is for a place in the semifinals of the World Cup as close friends Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi renew their rivalry on the global stage two World Cups in a row.

Here is our Preview and Predictions for the game.

FIFA WC26 | QFs: FRA vs MAR | 01:30 IST, 10 July 2026

Right until the final second before kick-off, everyone was of the opinion that the irresistible France juggernaut would absolutely steamroll Paraguay and rather comfortably seal their spot in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, further cementing just how much of an absurdly skillful team they are.

While they did make it to the Final 8, their game was anything but fluent like we have been so accustomed to seeing. The renowned French trio barely got any purchase from a staunch and gamely Paraguay backline as they used every trick in the book to make life miserable for the French.

It was evident that Paraguay’s gameplan was to suffocate the French attack and it worked perfectly for 70 minutes as the French could seemingly find no gaps and were left empty-handed every time they attempted to breach that wall. That is where France’s absurd strength in depth comes to play, with sub Desire Doue’s jinking run finding him inside the penalty box before being scythed down to win a penalty, which was nervelessly slotted in by Kylian Mbappe to give them what was a very hard-fought 1-0 win.

While the win might be seen as a way that can be used to get at this France team, another way to look at this is that the French found a way despite everything that the opponents threw at them, which highlights their resilience and their big-match know-how which is their biggest ally in such high-stakes knockout games.

For Morocco, if the last World Cup opened doors to the start of a new chapter in their football journey, this World Cup has only gone on to cement that their resurgence is not a flash in the pan, but a tale of consistency and a promise of breaking even more new ground this time around.

Their performances have once again shown that they are no longer outsiders, but capable of rubbing shoulders with the best of the best. The likes of Noussair Mazraoui, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Azzedine Ounahi, and Isamel Saibari have all risen to the occasion, with experienced campaigners like Yassine Bounou and Achraf Hakimi constantly going above and beyond.

Even against Canada, despite the co-hosts doing all the early running, the Moroccans withstood the barrage, got themselves into the game, and then took the game away rather brutally from the Canadians in the second half. That was as calm and composed a performance from Morocco as they come, and that will definitely hold them in good stead against the French.

Both teams have injury concerns to major players in their ranks. France look set to be with Aurelien Tchouameni for the second game running with his injury feared to be much more serious than initially suspected, while Saibari for Morocco is reported to have a torn groin, yet he is allegedly insistent on playing this game for his side, ready to put his body on the line for his nation.

This is an entirely new Morocco than they were 4 years ago. In 2022 the lights were too bright for them. In 2026, they are not afraid of these lights and are threatening to take it all for themselves. This is definitely going to be a match that will be decided by the finest of margins.

We do not have a favourite to pick for this match, so we predict a draw after extra time, and France prevailing in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Score Prediction: France 1–1 Morocco (France win on penalties)
Venue: Boston Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA
