France vs Sweden | FIFA World Cup 2026 — Round of 32 | Preview and Prediction

In this all-European round of 32 match-up of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an irresistible France will look to seal a spot in the round of 16 against a Sweden side who were wildly inconsistent throughout the group stage but have found their way into the knockouts.

For the game, here we present our preview and prediction.

FIFA WC26 | Ro32: FRA vs SWE | 02:30 IST, 1 July 2026

France have been sauntering through opponents with consummate ease so far. Didier Deschamps’ men have been steadily increasing their standards with every passing game, and they are already looking like a very scary proposition for everyone.

It was Kylian Mbappé who started the show with sumptuous braces against Senegal and Iraq, with Michael Olise running the game behind him with balletic grace. The Mbappé–Olise two-step has already yielded three goals, with Olise assisting Mbappé thrice.

And just when it felt like reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé was a little off the boil, he served up a reminder of his threat by helping himself to a hat-trick against Norway in the first half itself, as the 2022 runners-up strolled their way to top spot in their group with minimal fuss.

The scary thing about this France side is that it still feels like they have another gear to move into given the way they play, and Sweden should be very afraid of the fact that they might have to face the brunt of this France attack.

Speaking of the Blågult, if there’s one side whose form has oscillated between competitive and dismal, it is Graham Potter & Co. From handing out a 5–1 rollicking to Tunisia to being the recipients of an identical drubbing, Sweden have gone from one end of the form spectrum to the other. Yet, they find themselves in the round of 32, though we cannot see them going any further.

We believe that France are heavy favourites to progress. They have just too many weapons in attack, making it very unlikely that Sweden will stand any chance against Les Bleus.

Score Predictions: France 4–0 Sweden
Venue: New York New Jersey Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA
