Without a doubt, Harry Kane has been England’s most outstanding striker over the past decade. The former Tottenham Hotspur star has consistently posed a significant threat in front of goal. Beyond his natural finishing ability, Kane is an all-around centre-forward capable of linking play, creating chances, and scoring from set-pieces. However, despite his brilliance on the pitch, Kane’s career has been marred by a lack of major trophies for both club and country.
Kane has been England and Spurs’ shining star but he has failed to convert that into trophies. Kane has suffered heart-break with the country, losing two European Championships finals (2020, 2024) and has also lost an EFL Cup final (2020/21) and a Champions League Final (2018/19) with Spurs in recent years. Spurs haven’t been able to challenge for the Premier League title since the 2016/17 season where they ended up the runners-up to Chelsea. However, it was never for lack of effort at his end that Spurs or England didn’t win trophies. Such has been his consistency for club and country that he has three Premier League Golden Boots (2015/16. 2016/17, 2020/21), a PL Playmaker of the season award (2020/21), a PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award (2016/17) and a FIFA World Cup Golden Boot (2018) amongst other honours.
He was expecting to win trophies when he switched to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 as the Bavarians have been serial Bundesliga winners and won every single title from 2012/13 season. However, Bayer Leverkusen had a remarkable season, pipping them to the League title. Bayern Munich had a rare season that ended trophyless as Kane’s bad luck continued even though he had a phenomenal top-scoring season in the Bundesliga with 36 goals and 8 assists, also winning the Golden Shoe and the Gerd Müller trophy. A lot of people believed that he had taken the Spurs jinx to the German side as well but in hindsight, Bayern Munich’s failure had more to do with Bayer Leverkusen having an unbelievable unbeaten season and others in the team not providing him with the supporting act.
This season, Bayern Munich are soaring in the Bundesliga, holding a six-point lead at the top after 27 games. They’re also through to the Champions League quarter-finals, making them strong contenders for the title. With Harry Kane and the team in excellent form, it’s increasingly likely that Bayern Munich will reclaim the Bundesliga crown after last year’s setback. At long last, Kane is on track to add a team trophy to his impressive collection of individual honours—a reward he’s long deserved after consistent world-class performances season after season.
