Here’s how Max Verstappen can clinch his third World Title during the Qatar Sprint

The 2023 F1 season still has quite a few races left. Even with six races to go, though, Red Bull’s talisman Max Verstappen is on the cusp of making history.

The Dutchman has had an incredible year, which sees him head into the 16th race of the season with 12 wins under his belt. Verstappen has more or less confirmed his third World Drivers’ Championship, and he can secure his third back-to-back-to-back title this weekend in Lusail, Qatar.

In this article, we take a look at the different permutations that could see Verstappen secure the World Title this weekend.

Scenario 1

If Verstappen finishes P6 or higher in the Qatar Sprint, it doesn’t matter where his nearest title rival, his teammate Sergio Pérez finishes; the Dutchman will have reclaimed his crown.

Scenario 2

If Verstappen finishes P7 in the Sprint and Pérez does not win the Sprint.

Scenario 3

If Verstappen secures P8 in the Sprint race and Pérez finishes P3 or lower.

Scenario 4

If both Championship contenders fail to score any points at the Sprint (they finish P9 and lower), Pérez will be left with no chance to catch Verstappen for the rest of the season, thus handing the Dutchman his third World Title on Saturday after the Sprint race.
