Here are two teams who have made it to the Super Eights of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup unbeaten and will now be looking to build on that form as the tournament heads into its business end.
Zimbabwe are one of the dark horses for the title, having taken down co-hosts Sri Lanka and Australia. The West Indies, who seem to come alive during the T20 World Cups, will be wary of them.
Here, we present our preview and predictions for Match 44 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe are one of the four teams who have come into the Super Eight stage — along with India, South Africa, and the West Indies — without dropping a game, having beaten Oman, Australia, and Sri Lanka in the group stage, while their match against Ireland was washed out.
Zimbabwe’s batting has been carried by their top four batters — Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Ryan Burl, and Sikandar Raza. All four have been in good form, with Bennett having scored two half-centuries in three games.
While batting has been a massive positive for Zimbabwe, what will play against them is the fact that they played all their group stage games in Colombo and now have to adapt to a new venue. The Colombo strip has been a sluggish and flat one, while the one at Wankhede has seen runs and some turn as well.
Zimbabwe’s bowling has been led spectacularly by their pace attack trio of Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, and Brad Evans, all of whom have been among the wickets from the get-go. While the ZIM seamers have caused trouble for the opponents up top, their spin attack, led by captain Sikandar Raza with support from Graeme Cremer and Ryan Burl, has kept things tight with some clinical bowling.
Zimbabwe have also been stellar in the field, with their catching among the best in the tournament, which has also been key for them.
As far as the other camp is concerned, the West Indies might be struggling in other formats, and their players could be out of form, but when it comes to T20Is, they always seem to find a new breath of life.
The Windies, like Zimbabwe, are unbeaten and have been clinical in all departments so far. With the bat, Brandon King and captain Shai Hope have been providing strong starts at the top, while middle-order batters Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, and Sherfane Rutherford have had time in the middle and runs under their belts. If there’s one area of batting they’d like to improve, it is their lower-middle order, hoping that they start finishing innings with more fireworks.
In terms of their bowling, seamers and medium pacers have been doing the job for the two-time T20 world champions, with Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph, Jason Holder, and Romario Shepherd all being among the wickets. Gudakesh Motie has been the Windies’ lead spinner, with Akeal Hosein being economical despite not being among the wickets.
The Wankhede pitch has provided runs and assistance for spinners this World Cup, and while Zimbabwe come into the Super Eights high on confidence, the West Indies’ firepower and familiarity with the playing conditions make them our favourites for the win here.
