Australia take on India in the big-ticket game of the day
With just a couple of games left in the Super Eights, we still have semi-final spots to play for from both groups as multiple teams are still in the fight to make it to the final four.
Ahead of another day of action packed games, here’s our predictions for day 23 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Co-hosts West Indies need a win to keep their T20 World Cup campaign alive while a win for their opponents South Africa certainly confirm a semi-final spot (the Proteas can go through even if it is a close loss for Aiden Markram and his boys).
West Indies are coming off a big win against the United States of America while South Africa pulled a Houdini act against England to steal a win. Both teams have shown strong form throughout the tournament but have also shown that they are vulnerable. At the business end of the World Cup, both teams will be looking to fine tune their imperfections and we should be in for very close and exciting game between two extremely powerful teams.
With their backs against the wall, we have West Indies edging head in what should be a thrilling game.
Fantasy XI: Quinton de Kock, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Rovam Powell, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Andre Russell, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph
Venue: North Sound
Winner Prediction: West Indies
Australia’s shock loss to Afghanistan has opened up the entire group and kept both Australia and Afghanistan alive and in contention for the second semi-final spot from the group.Australia are on the verge of being eliminated if they go down to India and Afghanistan wins their final game against Bangladesh. But if there is one team who one should never count out when the chips are down it is Australia. With their backs against the wall, Australia is going to come hard at India with everything.
India’s batting lineup has been in the spotlight for not clicking as a unit and with the semi-finals knocking on the door, India will be looking for a comprehensive showing with the bat, especially from their big guns. Against Bangladesh, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube all got starts but in the knockout games one would hope that the batters convert their starts into a big score.
After being outplayed like they were against Afghanistan, any other team would be down on morale and would not be the favourites, especially against India but the Australian team in white-ball World Cups are a different beast and we have the Aussies taking a win in this encounter.
Fantasy XI: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Travis Head, Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Hardik Pandya, Adam Zampa, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood
Venue: Gros Islet
